Is it time for a Glock?

Over the last few years I've been able to put together a pretty well rounded gun collection that is mostly made up of Rugers. While I've considered other brands along the way, I've pretty much always chosen the Ruger offering in each class of gun I've been interested in because I've always had such good luck with them. And they are almost always less expensive.

So with the bases pretty much covered, anything I buy at this point is really just another range toy. Between a non-Ruger rifle I'm about to sell and some Christmas cash/gift cards, I'm ready to add to the collection.

I'm mostly interested in adding another 9mm pistol at this point. I could get a RAP in that caliber (I already have one in 45ACP) or I could get another 9E and get it custom colored (I feel like a FDE colored handgun would be cool). Alternatively, though, I'm thinking its time to try another major manufacturer. I've looked at the Glock 17 and 19 off and on for a few years but never bitten.

Alternatively I could look at Sig P320 or S&W M&P. Or maybe there is something else I should be considering.

Just wondering what other Ruger fans think about the non-Ruger popular options.

I was a glock hold out for a long time, bought a 19 for a sweet deal, and totally love it. Switched the sights to the henie straight 8 tritiums and its a great accurate pistol. I added the streamlight TLR 1 and it serves duty as my night stand gun. Everyone knows I am hardcore ruger, but I do like the glock, just took me years to come around. Which led me to buy the 42 as a second ccw pistol. Its also a fun little gun and reliable.

Everyone should have a Glock, amd of your choices I would recommend the 19. Having said that, the M&P 9s are pretty sweet, too, and I actually prefer them over my Glock.

Smith is coming out with a Gen 2 model in the M&P line, so if that's the way you go, I'd wait for the new one.

My wife wanted a Glock 19 because she just didnt like my SR9c. After a few range sessions with her Glock I traded my SR9c for my own Glock 19. No regrets at all.
Thats sounds really similiar, I bought my glock before the sr series rugers came out. Well when the sr series came out, I felt it was a little too similiar to the glock, same with the m&p and xd. So I never warmed up to the sr, despite being a ruger die hard. I have fired the sr, its accurate, and reliable, but for a striker fired pistol, I perfer the glock, I feel it is the benchmark for commercial striker fired pistols. With that said I am a hammer guy on my pistols.;)

I guess it depends on one's view of "well rounded collection", to me a collection without Glock (plastic representative) isn't really complete.

I don't buy guns for the goal of collecting, but I acknowledge certain models and/or specific brands are must haves because of their reputation.

I started with a G30. Traded it towards something that I may or may not still have. I eventually missed having a Glock, and got a G17.... Repeat all that, and I now have a G26.
They've all been dead on reliable... Number one importance in a SDW, especially in a pistol. I usually lean more towards a revolver.
Even though I'm a steel and wood kind of gun person, I don't agree with the general opinion that Glocks are ugly. I think Glocks are the best looking plastic guns out there. Pure, functional beauty. Most of the others look like, well... a Glock that has grooves and lines cut into it to try and make it look cool.
Just MHO.
These days, I'm alternating between the 26 an a S&W J-frame as my pocket-carried CCW.

No problem with the Glock from me. Had a few. Will probably have another one sooner or later. My recommendation at that price point would be a Sig P2022 9mm. It is NOT an 'entry level' Sig. I have one and it's every bit as reliable and accurate as all my other P series Sigs. IMO it's one of THE best values in handguns. Highly recommend. Don't overlook the good old Beretta 92 either. Tough to argue against a CZ75 but I don't have any experience with one.

Im with Buck on the CZ 75 series. .

I like hammer fired metal pistols.

We have (4) CZ 75 series 9mm's now, looking for #5. ;).
The 75 d PCR is my EDC. Love it. 1500 + rounds , no failures.

We just ran 400 rounds through a recently purchased P01 this past week.
Great pistol as well. Thats the upgrade new version for the PCR.

Wifes EDC is a 2075d Rami. Buck actually recommended that one, and what a perfect fit and nice conceal carry & shooter.. She loves it. ( Thanks again Buck :) )
My favorite shooter is my 75BD with TruGlo TFX sights and a #13 mainspring.

We have had ZERO failures on any of the 4.

Our son has the 75 BD 9mm with a Kadet 22 lr kit. If you like shooting 22 lr, its awesome.

With CZ hammer forged barrels, accuracy is incredible.
Their rifles are amazing. We have 2 of those also.
Gun Airsoft gun Trigger

Maybe everyone should own a Glock, I wont knock em, dont own one, but they have a good reputation. I just dont like polymere striker fired.

but if thats the case, everyone should own a CZ 75 series as well. Awesome quality built firearms.

Good luck. :)

I was an all Ruger guy until recently. I found the Ruger's to be good looking, built like a tank, and priced right. But, I also found that when shopping for various accessories, Ruger options were very limited but Glock options were always available. So, I bought my first Glock, a 19. No regrets

To respond to some of the posts, I already have some polymer framed pistols (9E, RAP 45) and a CZ75 clone, so I'm covered there.

Thanks for all the comments so far!

If you want a range gun and a glock I really like the G34, good trigger , simple controls, real accurate.

In that same realm, look at a S&W M&P Pro 9. better trigger, easier to break down for cleaning.

just my 2 cents

I'll just stay quiet on this ...

Well maybe a few short comments, go with a Sig if you feel the need to branch out again. I know glocks are supposed to be good but I could never bring myself to get one. My glock friends look down their noses at my Ruger tanks ... P series!

Its also interesting that my auto correct keeps changing glock to block ... nuff said
