I just bought mine in Febuary. It'd been at the dealers before all the gun ban stuff happened so I'm guessing it's a 2012 model. But who here bought one when they first came out? Is there a way to tell by the serial number who here has the oldest?

They all had a 490 prefix, according to info on the Ruger website. Have to go with the suffix. I bought mine used, but it had been shot very little. Made in 2008, first year.

Beginning Serial Number: Years of Production:
490-00001 2008

My serial # is 490-008xx, I didn't remember when I bought it,
I just knew it was a long time ago.
Bye the way, it's UNFIRED .

What are you waiting for? :) Really, they are an absolute hoot to shoot, guaranteed to make you smile.
I am so busy shooting everything else. I normally take a couple
of Glocks, 3 or 4 Mark III's, and 2 or 3 10/22's. After shooting
those, it takes all my energy to load everything in the truck.
Also now that I have had it so long and it is still new unfired
in the box, I want to keep it NIB to resell later.

I got mine a few days after Christmas (woohoo for giftcards!) for $175 out the door at Cabelas. My serial is 490-439xx and the safety check sticker on the box was June 4, 2012. Mine sat at Cabelas for 6 months, only to be happily adopted by me!

EDIT: I'd do unspeakable things to have the 490-00001 serial.

It's probably 2"x3" and right on one of the corners of the box. It says "Safety Checked June 04, 2012". I'm assuming that its a Cabelas sticker.
