New SR9 Buyer

Hi All-

I am a newbie and after much research recently purchased a Ruger SR9 that I will be shooting along with my daughter (and hopefully wife if I can talk her into it!). Will be waiting for the next 5-7 weeks for the background check to clear. In the meantime, I was considering taking the NRA Pistol Class with a rental. Any thoughts? Should I go ahead or wait so I can use my own gun for the class? Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome! I'd wait and receive training on your specific firearm. Nothing like becoming a pro with your own sidearm. The SR9 is an awesome pistol! If you are considering concealed carry in the future, I would recommend the SR9c. It has the short mag for concealed carry and the extension to feel very similar to the SR9. Just a thought you may want to consider! Enjoy!

Howdy from TEXAS, where the west begins. Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear from you.
While you want to practice with your own gun, it won't hurt to familiarize yourself with the pistol type and proper safety before you take possession and have one in your house.
NRA class will teach you basics that you can build on. So, go ahead and do it.

Welcome from SW Ohio, and congrats on your SR9 purchase. It's a great firearm.

As far as taking a class is concerned, I suppose it depends on what knowledge and experience you currently have. If none, sure, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with handguns in general. I'm sure once you get your SR9 you'll do plenty of shooting
