| Hi New from Maine
Hi everyone, after all the semi autos I have I finally got bit by the SA bug
I wished I'd of come here before purchasing the New Ruger Vaquero in 45CL / 45acp as I was unaware of the pressure limitations it had I should have gone with a SS Blackhawk as besides plinking I was going to use it for a nightstand SD gun.
Have been researching for a good SD ammo for the New Vaquero here and still have not found one.....So if any of you have any suggestions please let me know.(as of right now I don't reload)
I'm torn about this because I still like the look & feel of the New Vaquero...especially after putting on the aftermarket Spanish rosewood grips
And will put up pictures of my humble collection soon!

Welcome aboard from Orygun! Any of the standard pressure 225 grain rounds from the major ammo manufacturers should work well for home or self-defense. They provide .45 ACP level ballistics. The Hornady and Remingtons are my favorites with a little more power closer to .45 ACP +P ballistics. I have .44 magnums if I need more power for rural or woods carry.

Welcome from NJ. As mentioned the new Vaquero will handle any regular factory 45 colt load and 45 acp plus p. I am going to bring up an old discussion here but please only use factory ammo for self defense as you will otherwise open up a liability nightmare. Read discussions here n this subject or read the writings of Massod ayoob on this subject. good shooting.

If you indeed have the 45 Colt/45 ACP version of the Ruger New Vaquero then you have a huge selection of SD ammo in 45 ACP. I wouldn't worry too much about the pressure limits. The New Vaquero can handle all typical factory 45 Colt and 45 ACP ammo. You CAN NOT use the super-hot loads like Buffalo Bore or reload the Blackhawk-Only recipes for it. You can still have a great time using this SA revolver. I have two New Vaqueros in 45 Colt and shoot them in cowboy action shooting several times a month and they are so reliable. They are the preferred SA revolver for most CAS shooters and these guys shoot them in high volume and often.
