Just found the site today. Have been around firearms virtually all my life. After Dad's WWII fighter pilot service, he joined Winchester-Western as territory manager for Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas during the "golden years." From '48 through '51, the 3d bedroom of our GI Bill tract house in Phoenix was the "sample room" for two to three of everything Winchester made at the time as well as all the Winnie and Western ammo needed to demonstrate them. Dad was recalled for Korea, found flying jet fighters so much fun that he went Regular and made it a career. Assignments took us to Texas, Alabama, back to Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, Michigan and Georgia. After flunking out of college in '64 I was "greeted" and looked "keen in Army green" through mid-'69, then returned to college with a new focus and breezed through senior year. The 15 months of studying conflict resolution and nation building in the Southeast Asia "live fire" zone no doubt assisted in that maturing process. After that, it was a nearly 20-year career in media (journalism and ad sales); corporate and agency based advertising and public relations management; then nearly 20 years ownership of a manufacturing operation. Shooting was an occasional pastime during those years until November '06 when I was treated to an attempted carjacking while returning home. Suddenly I got very interested in handguns and their potential as defensive tools. Now with a CCW permit, NRA certification as a pistol instructor and lots of trigger time in various calibers and types, I continue my education with lots of reading, coursework and participation in on-line forums. Rugers are included in my collection so I look forward to learning and participating here.
