Hi Folks!

I am new to the forum. Just recently bought a used Ruger P95DC from a local gun shop. Going to pick it up on Wed this week. (Don't have a CCW yet! But planning to get one soon.) I am not new to handguns, and when I was younger, I owned several. I hunted a lot too in my youth, but kind of lost the taste for it, (not anti hunting by any means, just don't care for it myself. I am an avid fisherman though). I grew up with guns. My father was a WW II vet, and a Marine Sharpshooter, and he taught me to shoot, and we spent some very memorable and enjoyable hours when I was a young man, shooting both rifles and pistols.

When my children were teenagers, my wife became very concerned about teenagers and firearms, and convinced me to sell my guns. That was more than 10 years ago. Recently, my city has gone from being a nice middle class city, to being a high crime area. (Cape Coral FL. Reasons are too many people borrowed way too much money on their homes, and then abandoned them). Anyway, I feel the need for some home protection again, and recently went to a gun show and bought a Cobra FS 380. After owning the gun, and firing it, I came to the conclusion that it was one of the most unsafe hand guns I have ever owned. So I did more research, and decided on a P95DC. I like the DC feature, and am planning to take my wife out soon to a local range and let her fire it. The price was in my budget. The firearm seems to be in excellent shape, and the gun shop has assured me that if there are any problems, they will first try to help me, then we will contact Ruger. Got a good price, with an extra clip. My gun shop has an excellent rep locally. Wish I had found them before the gun show.

I have owned and had a lot of experience with revolvers and rifles. never owned a semi auto before the Cobra 380. Like I said, it's internal firing pin, and the way it is made, I would NEVER carry a round in the chamber. Once cocked and loaded, there is a tiny lip holding that pin back. I truly believe dropping the fire arm, or a jar would fire it. And I think the safety is kind of questionable. Live and learn. It fit my budget at the time.

But I am glad I found the P95. All I have read leads me to believe it is a good, safe reliable firearm. Used it ran me 279 with an extra clip.

Anyways looking forward to learning and exchanging views and info with the community, and any advice on going from knowing revolvers and going to semi autos will be listened too and appreciated.

And now work is a lot better, if I can bring my wife around to getting a CCW, I would like to find her a good 380 or small 9. I am going to sign up for a CCW class my next paycheck, and hope to convince her to also!

Welcome to the forum from Phoenix! Yeah, get your wife to join you in that CCW class. You'll both have a lot of fun and a good education.

welcome from nevada! i just recently got a P95, and just had it at the range again today. i'm sure you'll enjoy it. i personally feel like it's a little big for ccw but i know people do that, so i guess it's just more personal preference. i DO however feel very comfortable with it as a home defense weapon. enjoy your ruger and the forum! what capacity magazines do they allow you in florida?

Welcome neighbor from a fellow SW Floridian. There's a Shoot Straight store near you that has some good folks, a nice indoor range and good inventory. Check it out if you haven't already.

Welcome from Arizona!! You'll love the P95! Mine is my every day CCW and it's a little tank. Eats anything I feed it. Over 1000 rounds and no issues. Accurate little bugger too! Get your wife to take the CCW with you! It's a great learning experience, even if she never carries, and it's a fun way to spend the day. Good date night, LOL, dinner and a CCW course! Enjoy the forum! There's some awesome people, with lots of knowledge to share. Have a good one!
