Mandatory cleaning? No. It's your gun, but it's highly advised! Besides, I enjoy giving my new babies their first bath. It also will give you a chance to check out it's innards.  Rugers are notorious for having factory grit left in them and that's mainly what you'd be cleaning out. Enjoy the gun and the forum. They're both great! |

Welcome form SW Florida. Always a good idea to clean a new gun before your first range sesssion. You'll remove whatever bits that may be there from manufacturing plus you'll get an introduction to how things disassemble and reassemble. All part of the fun!
