| Ruger Old Army revolver
New to the forum but not new to Rugers. I have 9 Rugers, some since I was 16yo.
2 Mark I targets
1 Single Six convertible
1 Blackhawk 357mag 3 screw
1 Super Blackhawk 41mag
1 Blackhawk 44mag
1 Security Six SS 357mag
1 44mag carbine
1 Ruger Old Army
I just recently bought the Ruger Old Army witch looked like it has never been shot. It does not have a caliber indication on it and I have been trying to find out if it is .44cal or .45cal I have read that they are 44cal but if you put the conversion cylinder in it, it becomes a 45lc(a modern caliber, smokeless powder cartridge). How does one tell? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
PS: Where can I get bluing information on re-bluing a Ruger? I know it is a special process from other manufactures.

Welcome from Nj. The ruger old army is 45 caliber and when shooting the muzzleloading cylinder I always used .457 diameter roundball projectiles though .454 projectiles will work as well.. The muzzle loading cylinder must never be loaded with modern gun powder only black powder or substitutes like Pyrodex or triple 7 and some others. there is more to muzzle loading than I have room for but it is a fun shooting gun when used as a muzzle loader.
