Hi all,
I bought my 1st pistol (Ruger SR9c) and will be picking it up this Thursday. I did not have any intention on purchasing this particular pistol but based on how the gun felt in my hand as well as the trigger pull, I couldn't picture purchasing any other pistol especiall for the price. With that said, I'm looking for a couple opinions.

1. I'm seeing mixed opinions about cleaning a gun before 1st time use and I'm looking for some solid advise. Common sense tells me that cleaning it before 1st use certainly can't hurt, but I want to be sure.

2. As far as ammo goes. Can anoyone recommend decent ammo at a low price for range/target shooting vs. ammo to be used for self defense.

Thanks!

Welcome from the Republic of Texas...Cleaning before any first range session is a MUST to get the factory shipping lube out of there and a fresh oiling. You can use any ammo but try to stay away from the Russian and Serbian ammo until you get the new gun broke in.When its broken in it should eat anything you feed it...

Thanks! And right back at ya from FL. I'm very excited about this pistol. I've been watching assembly/disassemply/cleaning videos over the past couple days just absorbing as much info as possible about the gun in general. I can't wait to get out on the range as well as get a CCW!

Thanks for the fast reply. Much appreciated! Approximately how many rounds would qualify as a "break in period"?

Montro ... Welcome from SW Ohio & congrats on your new SR9c ... Glad to have you aboard!

In answer to your questions:
1. Definitely clean, inspect & lube it before your 1st range outing
2. Winchester white box or Federal Champion ammo is a good start
