I'm glad I found this forum. It will help me a lot.
I have a question right off the bat.
I am hoping to buy a SR-22 and I have heard that they do not come with threaded barrels in Canada. I wanted the threaded barrel so I could have a suppressor on the end which makes it look so much better. Now, what is your advice? Are there good suppressors I can mount over the barrel or what are the cons if I'm going that route? Or anyone can suggest a good gunsmith that could thread it for me? As U can see, I am very new to this.
-Thanks

Hotchkiss ... Welcome from SW Ohio ... Glad to have you aboard!

To receive the best responses to your SR-22 questions, I would recommend that you re-post your question in the appropriate sub-forum, as only a hand full of members are likely to see it here in the "New User" section.

Allright, its time to rain on your parade.

A few minutes searching Canada's gun laws "In Canada, a device to muffle or stop the sound of a firearm is a "prohibited device" under the Criminal Code. A prohibited device is not inherently illegal in Canada but it does require an uncommon and very specific prohibited device license for its possession, use, and transport."

Unless you are in a SWAT team, you can't have one. If you were in a SWATteam you would not need to ask us.

Since its illegal for you to have a silencer, the government sees no reason for you to have a threaded barrel. You have to smuggle it in, or do it yourself.

I certainly agree the law is silly and accommplishes no useful purpose. But don't cross it.

I have had Canadian gun licenses for 33 years now, including handgun license (Restricted endorsement on the FAC). Now I live where I can actually carry.

FYI it's illegal to have a real silencer in Canada, but........
The GSG 1911 (22cal LR) comes in a "tactical" version with a threaded barrel for a "fake" suppressor. "Some" people do buy them this way (and "some" of them offer them as a "WTS" a few days/weeks later.). :p
