Winchester plant leaving illinois to non union mississippi

Hello all my name is Jeff and I currently do not own a ruger, but will be getting an sr9c soon. I work at winchester ammunition plant in east Alton, IL where the worlds best ammo is made. In case any of you agree with winchester being the best I have some bad news. Olin (the parent company of winchester) has begun the process of possibly moving a majority of it's operations to Oxford, MS the same place they moved Rimfire. of course Rimfire ammo from winchester sucks now, so if you don't want the same thing to happen to centerfire rifle and pistol please contact Olin corporation at 1 314 480-1400. Let them know you don't want an inferior product.

Interesting message. A question comes to mind; how are the ammunition specs changed by a move from one state to another? I haven't heard any complaints about Winchester rimfire ammo, but I don't recall ever seeing Winchester branded .22 long rifle. Seems I always buy Remington. Why do you anticipate a lower quality product from MS? Will the mfg. process change? Isn't everything entirely automated? As a shareholder of Olin stock, I'd appreciate your inside information.

Nice and informative first post, welcome. Thanks for that bit, are we about to see a price change as well? I love my WWB .45acp, .40, 9mm, and .38super, however, I blame the Winchester 20ga for ruining this mornings 5stand tournament (I was nearly perfect with federal). I don't exactly hate winchester Rimfire ammo, most of us have bigger fish to fry like Remington. My only complaint about winchester rimfire is the cleanlyness (sp) and consistancy of the bullet shape. I reciently had a box of Winchester Subsonic that was terrible, the bullets varied +-5gr from 44gr to 39gr, the shapes were all over the map as well. This is the first batch of Win Subs that hasn't cycled in my 10/22, and was innaccurate.

I love Pre-64 winchester

Welcome.

If it's any consolation, at least they stayed in the U.S.

I'm sorry for any impact that the move may have on you and your family.

Good luck ...

Homer,
A lot of people think just because a group of people talk slow and live in the south that they are stupid and lazy. This is not so. Could it be that Winchester is having to pay such high union wages that they are being forced to move. I doubt that the quality will go down just because they move south where it is open shop. Maybe you could move too. You may like southern living.

If they move the ammo from Illinois to Mississippi, does that mean the it is no longer Union ammo but now it will be Confederate (Non-Union) ammo?

Honestly, Illinois sucks. All gun companies should escape places like that and New York.

I am sorry if you could lose your livelihood if such a move occurs, but I cannot support any firearms related company residing in the gun unfriendly state of Illinois.

When I must travel through Illinois, I stow my firearm in a container in the trunk and make a bee-line for the next state, and don't stop for any reason... Illinois will not get one penny in sales tax money from me and my family.

I hope for the best for you and the other workers at the Alton Winchester plant.

Thank your greedy union reps for loosing your job. Cash out, move south, and start over. Don't bank on any bennies from your union either. Rest assure they will squander every penny on their lavish lifestyle. When the moneys all gone the government will back the pension but anything else will be a thing of the past. But hey, look on the bright side. You got Obama Care.

Welcome from Michigun!

I just want to second the thought that "at least they are staying in the US".

JohnR will become famous soon enough
My first thought was "sour grapes" too, plus the bashing of one's own company adds up to stereotypical union tactics. Maybe we're wrong and the OP is not Union (no idea).

I will add that moving to the deep south brings them into a very diligent and dedicated labor pool of Mexican immigrants.
