Thanks for all of the replies.

An update: I did a cleaning after the first time out and went back to the range. I started with Hornady 168g precision TAP and still wasn't encouraged by the results. I ran out of that ammo and had to switch over to PPU 168g match ammo I picked up at Cabelas. Not the best ammo, but I had 10 rounds within an inch and a half group. Either the rifle likes the PPU more or the barrel is adjusting to the rounds being fired through it.

Although I have read that Ruger says you don't need a 'breaking in' period I can see that the barrel is responding the more rounds I put through it.

Time to head over to the RPR forum....

Welcome to the forums and glad to see you're already giving feedback. I joined not long ago, selling a tack driving Remmy LH .270 (never really trusted the safety) to get a Ruger All Weather LH Compact in .308. I haven't shot it yet as I saw some neat mods here and don't want to zero more than once. You're taking the right path, trying not only different bullet weights, but different manufacturers. The supposed benchmark ammo for almost all .308s is Federal Gold Medal Match in 168 grain. I've already got that and two other weights, 150 and 175 coming to try. I've read that some posters here have had some issues with the barrels not being completely free-floated, so you might want to check to make sure your barrel isn't making stock contact. But I want them to make a LH version and I'll be right there with ya. And once again, happy to have you here...
