| Cleaning Suggestions for SR22P
I bought a SR22P disassembled it, wiped it down.
Took it to the range, shot a little less than a 1000 rounds through it.
Gun is Very dirty.
started to have some FTF, FTL
I figured I shot enough, i wanted to see how much i could shoot before it need a cleaning.
Cleaning the Upper, slide area is no problem, I use Hoppes #9 My Cleaning Question,
Lower receiver area, is very Dirty ie: Hammer& spring, Sear is a oily and very dirty Mess, as well at the trigger is oily and very dirty up inside.
What do you use, any sprays that can be used to spray these areas? they look like they need to be degreased and residue cleaned
I can get into the magwell easy enough.
Then use air compressor, and have a dryer on the air compressor.

Use your Hoppes and an old toothbrush and you should be good to go.

Seriously, if you don't already have some Ballistol, get a can. Spray your barrel inside and out. Use a little on a q-tip and/or some patches, whatever you need to get into some smallish spaces by dabbing at them with a little Ballistol. It cleans and lubricates, makes your guns smell good and kinda dries up after awhile leaving a really, really nice finish on them. You can get the springs and stuff really clean that way.
After about 5-10 minutes, wipe off the outside of the barrel, clean out the inside (I use a bore snake), and put the gun back together. Use a soft clean cloth with a little bit of Ballistol on it to wipe off the outside of the gun.
That's the way I do it. I'm sure many others have different ways of doing it that work just as well or better.

Thanks Ditto1958 I had forgot about Ballistol,
I tried to get this in the past after watching a Hickok45 video on youtube
I have looked in the Past for Ballistol in my LGS & Big sporting store,
Went several local places to buy it. I cant find it locally.
I may have to buy it online.

I use Gun Blast and completely soak the entire pistol in it (barrel, trigger assembly, hammer and extractor), then I do a complete detailed lube job. But I do really like playing around with my guns. Also after shooting a lot of lead bullets one would also probably want to use some bore polish/cleaner and clean the bore very well.
I personally use Wilson Combat Ultima-Lube II Oil and really like it, I have used a lot of other oils / lubricants I don't like them nearly as much. There is a new one out there called FROGLUBE that I really want to try.
Just make sure you clean it very well and oil it correctly. Then you won't have many problems. Some lubes / oils don't stay put very well and run so you will need to lubricate them a little more often. Just read what the manufacture states and then check you guns regular to ensure that they are still protected.

I may have to buy it online. | GunScrubber works well for those areas & it's safe on the polymer in guns(LCP,LC9,SR's,Glocks,etc) I have been using Froglobe on my SR22p & it works well. I also just started using CLP on my SR9c & it also works well.

If you need to use one of the thousands of things that use double-stick tape or foam, pre-clean both surfaces with this stuff instead of alcohol.
I get mine at NAPA Auto Parts.

My habit, your mileage may vary:
- Disassemble
- Hoppe's #9 through the bore with a Q-Tip, then bore brush, then clean Q-Tip.
- Compressed air @ 65 psi everywhere, everything
- Turn the grip frame upside down and spray Hornady One Shot Cleaner and Dry Lube into the hammer area & let it run/drip out
- Compressed air again
- Lubricate and reassemble

Use carburetor cleaner rather than brake cleaner. Spray until clean and blow dry. Spray gun oil sparingly into the body of the gun and into the hammer opening. WEAR GLASSES !!!!!!!!!

Best stuff since smokeless gun powder! Check out the videos and the rest of the website. I switched a couple of months back and I'm not looking back. It's replaced all my other arsenal of cleaners and subsequent cleanings are a snap - basically just a wipe down and bore cleaning, which is now ridiculously easy. I use it on all my guns now.

Go to the car parts store and buy a can of electronics cleaner. (
( Don't use brake cleaner because it is too corrosive.) After you have cleaned the slide and barrel. hold the body of the pistol upside down and spray the crap out of it. Wear glasses and spray away from your face or body.

Then use air compressor, and have a dryer on the air compressor. | If you want it really really really clean, then I suggest you get yourself an ultrasonic cleaner. Fill the tub with 91% isopropyl alcohol and run it for about 8 minutes. All the parts will come out completely De-greased and factory new.
Make sure you do this away from open flame and in a well ventilated area.
Otherwise, hosing the parts down with a liberal dose of WD-40 seems to work pretty darned well too. Follow this up with a good scrubbing with a stiff nylon brush dipped in Hoppe's #9, then follow up with another hosing of WD-40. I have heard that brake cleaner works just as well as WD-40 and may be cheaper too. I have not tried brake cleaner because I have tons of WD-40 laying around in my garage.
