I use an ultrasonic to clean all my brass for reloading. I place the brass in some 500ml Pyrex beakers with a 5% Citranox solution. You can get Citranox over at Amazon

I also use the ultrasonic to clean the small moving parts of my guns. For example, I place the parts of my 10/22 trigger group in a beaker with 91% isopropyl alcohol for about 8 minutes. The parts come out completely degreased and spotless clean. I then wipe the parts down with a thin film of Frog Lube.

some folks on this board and others have had good luck with a harbor freight ultra sonic that's $79. Apparently, it's the same as a Lyman branded model for signficantly more.

I don't know if you can get a full sized handgun in one or not

I have an old ultrasonic cleaner I got when one of the labs where I work decided they didn't need it anymore. A few years ago, I used it to clean the cosmoline out of a surplus Yugoslavian M48 Mauser and it did wonders, especially the stuff hardened in the bolt. I don't even want to think how long it would have taken me to do that with a brush.

I've heard people say that the ultrasonic cleaners can do all sorts of damage to guns, but the worst they can do is reveal cracks that were previously invisible because of corrosion and caked on grime. As mentioned before, don't put in any plastic parts or painted finished, because the solvent (I use kerosene - it's cheap and has a high flash point) can ruin them.

I have look at both, the Lyman is a better unit, the harbor frieght one is a chinese knock off, plus the Lyman comes with two bottles of cleaner that alone are worth $35 with that in mind the Lyman is the better value I can get the Lyman for $99

here's pics of both:

HF is $74.99, and there are 20% off coupons all over for HF. Even at your $99, that's $40 difference. But, the cleaners included may be worth it to some.

Like I said they might look the same but they are not and your money saver has no cleaner supplyed with it, so by the time you buy that our out money.
