| Otis Gun Cleaning System
I attended the NRA convention and one of my impulse purchases was an Otis Elite gun cleaning kit. I am a die hard cleaning rod guy, but was impressed with the Otis cleaning system. Does anyone have any feedback (good or bad) with using an Otis Cleaning kit. I was told that our troops are using these over seas.

I use mine for 95% of my guns, biggest complaint I have heard was trying to outsmart the patches.
Got mine at Reno gun show 6yrs. ago , the guy cleaned a crusty 6.5 mauser I had purchased and made that bore shine, Sold. I got the Elite and I'm happy with it.

I use Otis as my primary cleaning tool for most of my claning. The rods come out when using JB Paste on some tough jobs. I tired the patch on my new .17 HMR and it got stuck pretty good. It took a real hard pull to get it out so I wouldn't recommend it for that caliber.

I bought a basic kit at a GS to clean my 22lr lever action. I have been very happy with it especially the multiple use patch. I like the large patch and small patch options for the varying caliber sizes. Make sure you watch their how to use system video on making the correct patch size for the different calibers.

I bought one after reading it might be better for target rifles. I use it on my 10/22 target. I really like it and would like to get the full kit. I just have the basic kit that I paid $10 for.

My Otis kit is the only thing I use, but sometimes I’ll use a rod on something like a Glock barrel cause they are so easy to get to. The Otis cleaning kits are the best thing to happen since chocolate. |

I use one for most of my cleaning. I have several sizes for different apps. The rimfire type is what first brought me to the Otis system. I can't make myself run a rod through my match grade .22 barrels. I do use my own cut to size patches instead of theirs.

Thanks for all the replies. I watched the how-to video. It really helped to explain the tuck and fold method for the patches. Otis had a 25% off discount at the NRA show, so I figured I'd give it a try.

I picked up the deluxe kit or whatever it was and am very happy with it. Nice little setup and small enough for the range bag. My only complaint is trying to use it on my Ruger 10/22 I haven't figured that one out yet.

I just picked one up too. I havn't used it yet but the feedback here seems pretty positive. What about the oil/solvent that comes in those kits, is it any good?

It took a bit of practice to operate the patches but once you get it down it is a great system. I see where other manufacturers have come us with similar breech to muzzle systems.

I like the kit. It is good for most cleaning jobs, but i would use the rods for stubbern jobs.
As for the solvents i would use Hopps.
