| Mini-14 stock question!
Has anyone on here seen or tried this bad boy out? I stumbled across it and I think it looks awesome. It's called the Archangel Sparta stock and it'll fit a Mini-14 or Mini-30 and I'm getting a Mini-14 soon so I thought I'd look into it. You lose the use of the stock BUIS, but I'm sure you could install some Troy flip up battle sights that would work fine. Mostly I just think it looks cool as hell too, LOL! Any thoughts or experience? Here's a video and a pic: Archangel Sparta - more trigger time - YouTube

If you want a rifle to look like the "other" black rifles why get a Mini? It's hiding one of the best point of the Mini, the Garand action. I would have spent my money on an AR based piece if I wanted to look like that. JMHO But if ya like it go for it.

I want a mini 14 for the price, and I'm thinking about this stock because I like the tactical, but I really don't like the ATI stocks. Plus I've heard the ATIs are not very durable. If I had the money for an AR-15 I'd go for it, but I'm not a fan of direct impingement systems and a decent piston AR platform can run around $1000 to start and for that price I can get the mini, the stock, a few 30 round mags, and perhaps some decent optics.
Good point on the Garand style rolling bolt action though. It's so beautiful! |

Comparing new prices, you can get into an AR cheaper than a Mini.

How much, where, what brand?! LOL, details man, details ! If I can pull off an AR cheaper with spare mags, optics, and such, I'll definitely look into it. As long as it's not the POS from Wal-mart. The best cheap AR I've found was a S&W M&P 15.
I still love the look of the Archangel Sparta stock for the Mini-14 though. And it's a Ruger. I really want an SR556 but I don't have that kind of money available.

The Sparta covers the action and is very European-looking. The ATI stock leaves the action uncovered. Both are nice stocks for the money.

Wow, yours is pretty . I like the heat shield! Is that a stock barrel with the heat shield thrown on, or an aftermarket barrel?
I agree on the European look. I think that's why I like it. Reminds me of the HK G36c: |

That's a pretty nice looking stock.
I'm new to the whole 'black rifle' arena, and I've only had my Mini-14 for a few weeks now, but I love shooting it! I was looking at the SR-556, but the cost was a little high for me right now and I really wanted to get shooting. I didn't want to buy a "cheap" AR-15 just to have one, I wanted a quality piece and being a Ruger fan, I really wanted (want) an SR-556, but it will just have to wait a bit longer. In the mean time, I had been researching the Mini-14 and reading all the pros and cons of the old and new models. I then saw an auction on Gunbroker.com the Mini-14 Tactical with Davidson's Lifetime Guarantee for $670, so I pulled the trigger (Sorry for the pun). I'm extremely happy with my purchase, and don't regret it at all after shooting it. In fact, it has me thinking that maybe having a back up wouldn't be such a bad idea at this price point when I have a few extra bucks. Have one with the 'stock' stock and then another I use for swapping out stocks and accessories for the 'black gun' look.
I purchased mine with the ATI-Stock and just added a 6" rail to it yesterday.
I'm planning to add a Harris Bi-Pod and also an Aimpoint PRO soon.

Just an FYI... I bought a Mini 14 this past week from CDNN for $599. It is the tactical version (not ATI-stock) and came with the 5-Round Magazine, 20-Round Magazine and I bought a second 20-Round Magazine. With shipping and the extra 20-Round Mag, I paid $650 (give or take a buck). That was $100 less than the asking price on any Minis locally. Even after I paid a transfer fee, I was still $75 for the better, not including the 8% sales tax I would have paid on top of the local asking price at the little shop here (I did give him the chance to come down on his price, but he just couldn't get there).
This was my first dealing with CDNN but will not be my last. They were courteous, helpful and quick. I couldn't possibly be happier.
$650 for the Mini and extra mag, $200 for the Sparta stock and another $250 for an optic and some battle sights and you're in the hole $1100. You can get a pretty nice AR for that, but it won't have that Mini reliability and Garand-style action. You could always go back to the standard synthetic stock, too if you were wanting something lighter and easier to hike with or something.
If you weren't planning on ever going back to the factory stock, I'd just look for an AR. Just my 2 cents.

Good-looking build, though. One of the better ATI conversions I've seen. I like it that you didn't junk it up with a bunch of stuff you didn't need. Well done, sir!

LOL - That's just a power strip I picked up at Sears after I bought two T12 fluorescent lamps (Not seen in this photo) for my 'dungeon'. Gradually adding some storage and bench space down there. Eventually there will be a reloading bench when I get to that point. That's my 112 year old house basement with stone foundation. |

Anyone have any experience-- good or bad -- with the Choate Folding stock on a Mini-14.
I just this afternoon acquired one, and before I remove it, I wanted to ask about ease of use and durability for this one.
I am thinking of putting on one of the more colorful 'Tundra' Thumbhole stocks like my Mini-30 wears.
Photo coming tonight
