I have a flat top AR with the "triangle" front sight. I would like to put a scope on it for center fire competitions at my local club. I know very little about scopes. My question is: will the front sight somehow block the scope, or will the scope be somewhat elevated so that the line of sight is above the front sight. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, airplanejoe |

It's kinda weird and I don't know why, but somehow the front sight almost disappears when looking through the scope. If your eye is near the scope looking at a long distance target you don't see the front sight, but when looking through the scope with your eye set back and at something close, you do see it. Here's some pics, but like I said, when you're looking though the scope at something 50' away you don't see the front sight. I'd also be interested in more info on why this happens. You could always get a scope that mounts to a carry handle (and buy a carry handle). ![]() ![]() ![]() |

BuckeyeBlast, the disappearing of the front sight is due to the focal length of the scope (the distance at which the lens will focus). In your picture, the scope focuses beyond the carbine front sight, making it "disappear". Your picture also gave me the answer to my question; the cross hair is above the front sight, so it will work. If the crosshair was lower in the body of the front sight, the sight would still disappear, but your target would "hide" behind the sight and would not be visible. By the way, what scope mount are you using?

There is always that "shadowing" which to me was somewhat annoying enuff to provoke replacing the front sight with a flat rail gas block, hence making the front site modular. It was worth every penny IMO. Its really a simple task to change out.
