| Know anything about Appalachian Trail
I was in Lowes the other day and found a knife that they have replaced the Case knifes with named Appalachian Trail. Well, I bought one and was not too inpressed but when I started to sharpen this thing it got scary sharp in a hurry. Now its suppose to be made out of stainless steel but I don't know what grade. In all appearances it seems like it is going to be a pretty good knife for around twenty bucks. The blade is 3 3/4" and the open length is 8 1/2". I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this brand of knife. I don't expect it to be as good as my CRKT knife but maybe it is a good beater knife to carry around. Any input would be appreciated.

I have purchased several of the Appalachian Trail knives over the years especially at Christmas time when they have some nice sets for gifts. They are OK knives for utility stuff but not what I would consider high grade knives. I even took the handles off a couple and put my own custom made scales and they look very nice. Yes you have to sharpen them and they do take a good sharpness but I keep a small stone handy all the time.

I think that we would all be interested in a follow-up telling how the edge holds up. I'm thinking that if, as you say, "this thing [it] got scary sharp in a hurry", that the edge will also dull at the same rate. Please keep us posted, OK?

Well, I use a knife quita a bit so I will be able to tell if it will hold an edge or not. I'm not looking for it to be a higher quality knife, but if it is a good utility grade knife and holds an edge pretty good then it is well worth the twenty bucks I paid for it. I will keep every one interested posted on how it is holding up.
