KA-BAR sharpening?

What is the best way to sharpen my KA-BAR? I have the course and fine Smith diamond sharpening stones that I use mainly. If you use something else successfully let me know. I'm not saying these don't work but am wanting to hear what other people use too.

Here's a link to the stones in case you're not familiar with them.

Coarse Diamond Sharpening Stone | Smith's - The Edge Experts - Course

Fine Diamond Sharpening Stone | Smith's - The Edge Experts - Fine

and here is the KA-BAR I have

fungun will become famous soon enough
Is there anything unique aboyt the kabar that requires something special or are you asking about sharpening in general? I use DMT diamond products and they've worked well for me, so many good options out there these days for honing

I use a lanskie system on most of my knives, even the serrated blades.

Being a former knifemaker, I've used every method there is. The Lansky is a dummyproof system for maintaining the proper angle when sharpening. And yes, the angles vary from knife to knife style grind. Many people are good with a flat stone, but most can not maintain the proper angle. When my eyes were good, everything was done on a belt grinder. All the fixed angle sharpeners, you just drag the knife thru are fine for kitchen knives, but for getting the proper angle, most people will benefit from a guide system.

If you have more than 1-Knife to sharpen and you don't want to take all night or day to do so, then check out the product called "Work Sharp" It is a small electric knife sharpener that really works better than the $300 dollar sharpeners. I know because I bought those $300 dollar pieces of JUNK.

This WORK SHARP product is very fast and works great! I sharpened a dozen of my knives the very first time. These were Bowie types, stockman, fish fillet, and wife's kitchen carving knife too. The price is close to $65 dollars and you will never go back to a Lansky, Smith Stones etc.

Just picked up a Smith's "Pocket Pal". Seems to work pretty good on my pocket knives.

[For day to day I use a lansky sharpener. Once a year or so i let a local kitchen supply company put a razor edge on my knives.

I use a Lansky system for all my knives. I have one of these KABAR knives like you pictured. Using the Lansky system, I litterly can shave the hair off of my arms or legs.

Let me think just a minute please! First off it is NOT a system, they were factory producet "electric knife sharpeners" understand. I purchased 3 electric, so called kitchen knife sharpeners and they were all a big joke! I ordered two of them from Cabela's and they started out a $179 model 130 3 stage. The motor got so hot after sharpening just two kitchen knifes, I unplug it and shipped it back for an exchange. The second unit, a better sharpener according to Cabela's, did not do much better at all. I shipped it back for a refund on my pony card. Then the 3rd one was through a client of mine and It was a "Edlund model "395" which listed at over $600 dollars. Now you best check that one out too! I got a brake and it only cost me $360 dollars but it did not perform up to my standards. None of the above sharpener's will out sharpen the low cost "Work Sharp" model and will not do sharpen knifes as fast. In theory it is a small electric belt sander with degree slots for putting various degrees of angle on a particular type of blade.
