You can do a lot more with that knife than just skin, I dressed out a lot of deer and 4 Caribou with mine. The one I have doesn't have the gut slicer.

It is a fine knife, enjoy and congrats.

A Buck Vanguard! I've got the same knife but without the gut hook..............
They are a very over looked knife! A real good design, good length for carrying and stays sharp. Got love the rubber handle when it gets wet..................much better then the wood one!

Also nice to hear you have son who gets you something you can use instead of just getting a Gift Card, if you know what I mean.

Nice gift. I love the deep hollow grind on the blade of that nice Buck USA skinner. They are easy to get shaving sharp, hold an edge, and dress up quickly when dulled. That is a present that I hope sees use in 2017!
