Found Treasure...of a sorts

I was digging through some old stuff and came across a knife that my dad used to carry for work. He worked for the City in many different departments, but always outside and always doing some type of hard work.

And he always carried this push button flipper he had, calling it a switchblade is a stretch, it barely has the strength to open itself to locking, and once open, there is a ton of blade play forwards, backwards, side to side. Also, looking at the blade, I am thinking he probably broke the tip off at one point and reprofiled the thing on a bench grinder.

So, I found it mixed in with a bunch of other stuff and took a closer look at it...it is stamped Schrade Walden, N.Y. USA. Wow! And did I mention the handle is bright orange. So to Google I went.

This thing is a Schrade Paratrooper Knife from 1957 or later. It is missing some parts and it has been beat to snot, but still pretty cool to find something like that.

That is cool finding your Dad's old carry knife.

The most valuable thing I own is my Dad's old three blade pocket knife. It is an Imperial Knife co. Diamond Edge model. It is a tiny little thing and he broke the main blade off to less than an inch long. I remember when he did it, I was about 6 and I learned a few new words that day.
I doubt if he paid more than $5 for it back in the 40's. But I wouldn't trade it for a bushel basket full of Bench Made Knives.

So this pic is of one of the knives in decent shape, it has its loop and cutting hook yet, and notice the blade is a clip point.

These are pics of my Dad's knife, notice the hook is missing and the loop is nowhere to be seen. Also, the blade is an odd shaped, almost reverse tanto blade now

This knife was used for at least 20 years in some pretty brutal environments, I am surprised it is in as good of shape as it is.

Very nice, a well worn old work horse.
Looks like it may have been painted black at some point too?

One of his jobs with the city was in the Traffic Management department...so he messed with paints alot...I am sure it came into contact with some black paint and maybe some yellow too!
