I need to figure out the correct way to sharpen wood chisels for a lathe if anyone has a good idea or source.

S30V is a pain in the neck to sharpen. I've just gotten to the point with my S30V blades (and my one S90V!) to either have a local guy here in Maine, or send them back to the factory for them to do it. I'm pretty sure Kershaw like the rest of the Oregon-based knife companies sharpen them for free. You're exactly right, I don't have the patience, but more power to you if you do.

I've got a big folder made with ATS-34 that is harder than woodpecker lips to sharpen! I use arkansas stones but its slow going.

So, I have found that the S30v steel is pretty mean stuff to sharpen. I wanted to re-profile the blade a bit so that it would match the angles available to me on my Lansky. The normal coarse stone barely made a dent...so I wound up getting the coarse diamond stone and what a difference that made.

So I hit it with the coarse diamond to re-profile, then moved through my other stones down to my fine stone and then finally to a strop with yellow compound. I could shave my head with the knife now if I wanted to and it even has the beginnings of a mirror polished bevel to boot (which I don't really care about as these knives are not being used for show pieces).

Thanks for all the responses.
