| Hunting with a New Model Blackhawk in 45 Colt
I have a NM Blackhawk with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in 45 colt that I would like to kill a deer with. I've searched and googled but haven't really got any good info on what bullet is recommended for deer. I heard people mention Buffalo Bore ammo and one guy mentioned Hornady Leverevolution. What have you guys used to hunt deer with successfully or what have you tried that didn't work? Thanks!

Clippers,
I have the same gun as you. I handload and have taken a few that way, but I picked up a box of Horandy as well to try. Keep all my shots to 30 yards and less. The poi is same as my handloads at 25 yard so I practice with my loads. Best of luck this season.
I also carry it scouting for deer signs in hopes of running across a few hogs here in SC. Will update you on how effective they are on them.

Nothing will kill any faster or deader than the old Keith style SWC cast boolit in the big bores, i have switched and never looked back. John Linebaugh says that a 240-270 gr slug moving at 900-1000FPS will plough through a deer any way you stack it and as long as you have a good flat nose, what more can you ask for? As Keith said, "you can eat right up to the hole" and you never have to wonder how they will perform. My brother and i had trouble with HP's on larger game and went to soft points, then totally away from jacketed all together.
Buffalo Bore offers quality ammo and will give good results on game.
Good luck to you, there is no thrill like getting that close to your deer when you hunt with a pistol.

Wish you the best in hunting with a revolver. The experience and satisfaction of killing big game with a revolver is second to none. Once I made my first kill with a revolver I was hooked. Never went back to a rifle. Hope you have success!

Is there not many people that hunt with their 45's? I'm kinda excited about getting out there with a SA revover on my side.
