Hey all just bought a little Savage 93R17 ,any of y"all done much with this caliber....whilst i love my CZ hornet this little rifle looks like a lot of fun on critters ie rabbits and hares its topped off with a Millet 3x12x50 AO scope so it should be fine for reaching out and making a Hares day.A little cheaper to run than the Hornet and a lot more legs than .22lr.

I have a Savage .17HMR also. Absolutely love shooting it. It is a tack driver for sure. Wish the ammo was a little cheaper...but the "fun factor" makes up the difference. I think you will really enjoy shooting it.

I love the 17HMR honestly I wish they made a 10/17. I'd have one!

From what I've heard they made it but they were never released do to safty reasons or something...right? Or am I just way off here.

I chose the .17 Mach II instead for my purposes. I did considerable testing and decided that the "lesser round was just as accurate, lower noise than the HMR and had a much lower ricochet factor than the .22 lr. But my purposes were rather specific.

I to love that little round. I don't even hunt, just love it's flat shooting, tack driving capabilities with little recoil. I too have the Savage 93 with accutrigger and at 3-9x scope. My shooting buddy and his wife love it so much that they went out and bought one. I have on order a Boyd Evolution stock for the rifle. Then last week I bought a Taurus Tracker revolver chambered for 17HMR. It too is great fun. Yes, the ammo is a little pricey compared to 22LR, but beats the heck out of centerfire prices. Enjoy your new gun.

I have the Marlin in both 17 and 17hm2. I shoot the 17 a lot more. Its fun at the range shooting dime size groups. Have a Muller APV on mine.

I have the Savage too, with a cheap 3x9 on it. Very fussy eye relief, so someday I'll put a better scope on it. I use it strictly for ground squirrels and crows. 'Course sometimes it's hard to tell a raven from a crow. I love the flat shooting little cartridge, but I wouldn'y use it for anything as large as a coyote. I think there's too much chance they would go off wounded to die a slow death. For coyotes i'll use my Rem. 725 222.

I love my Savage. I've got a stainless model with a thumbhole stock and a bull barrel.

cat skinner, I took a coyote with a head shot at about 85 yds. It was stalking the neighbors Rotweiner (they have a 13 year old dachshund with an over exaggerated sense of her own ability) so i figured I would give the short legged little queen a helping hand. The 'yote just dropped in its crouch and did not get up again.

I'm sure quite a few coyotes will be dispatched with the .17, but I've had a few ground squirrels crawl a few feet into their holes after getting hit with the plastic-tipped 17gr, so I'm just not ready to use it on anything larger, except maybe in a case like you described. We had a mutt dachshund from the pound for many (I might say too many if my wife's not around) years. Stupidest dog I've ever come across! I called her pea brain and considered it a compliment.
