When I was out in Southwest PA I had my 4" Blued GP100 on my hip loaded with 125 grain Hornady Critical Defense. As others have mentioned above I feel my rifle will handle most any problem I run into. The revolver is more because I like to carry it and just in case I need to access something quickly against 2 legged threats.

Well I guess I'm going out for the last day of deer season tomorrow with my son. He says we need a couple more deer for the year. So I guess I'll take my 5.5 Ruger in .45 colt. Usually it's one of my .44's.

I haven't hunted with a rifle in years . A T.C. In .35 rem or 358 J.D.J. or savage striker 308 with a ruger .45 colt 4 5/8 or 5 1/2 in barrel in a crossdraw of my manufactor.

Along with my rifle

In NH I carry a hunting knife. When I was hog hunting in TX I carried my SP101 loaded with snake shot.

Depends on what I am hunting if it is deer season in NH then either a 44 Mag SBH Hunter or a 20Ga 870 Slug gun either of them will put down anything I encounter.

When bird hunting in NH or VT that is different I have run into Moose to many times with nothing but bird shot and a pair of dogs to not carry. Last year it was a Glock 32 in 357 Sig but that is not the best choice so I am looking for another 44 Mag this year

it all depends on what im doing in the woods. like said before PA you can have your CCW in the woods during differnt times. if im out walking around looking at new places to hunt my gp100 357 with 158gr hp. if im archery or turkery hunting my XD 45. but this year ill being switching the 357 out and carring my balck hawk 45colt. as well as hunting with it.
even in rifle season the last few year ive carried the 357 incase i got a close shot but no luck yet

When I'm out in the woods my S&W 686+ is on my hip. 7 shots of super hot .357 Mag loads can be counted on to get me out of trouble. Have had to use it a couple of times black powder hunting with my .50 Hawken.

Cheers,

Geoff

For me, and the locations I hunt most often, I'm more worried about bipedal adversaries than four legged kind.

Therefore I opt to carry either a Glock 19 or a 5" Government Model 1911. I also carry more spare magazines when I'm on the border than I do in town. Six spare magazines is about right for the 1911, and three for the Glock. I also carry a BUG, Glock 26. That's in addition to my hunting rifle and lots of spare ammo.

My intent is not to engage dopers, but to move away from them. However, two in any group of smugglers, are armed, most often with fully automatic AK's. That makes me want lots of ammo at my disposal. It's sort of like my ancestors living and surviving in Indian country.

Up north I've carried either a .357 Mag or a .44 Mag most often. The bipedal threat is less, and the four legged threat can be the most problematic. To not carry some sort of sidearm when hunting is a foriegn concept to me that I cannot fathom.

I usually carry a 4" DA revolver. Either a S&W 19, 686 or 629. In Nor Cal there are many "grows" and the required miscreants that go along with them. My biggest concern is a big cat. I have my rifle for bears but Cats sneak up on things and kill 'em for a living. I figured my best chance for survival in that rotten scenario will be a contact shot (or several). This is my reason for ruling out autos.
P.S. looking hard at a SS 4"GP 100 since Rugers recently got approved by my Dept.

3" SP101. one shotshell for no legs, two 38+p for two legs, two 357 in case 1-2-3 isn't enough.

This question is asked so many times.

In my mind, an outdoor revolver, especially for hunting, should be at least a 44 magnum. I mean, why not have the extra stopping power? It can be loaded light to wild for any use from plinking to big stopping power.
