I have already taken a buck with my Savage 110 .270 this year. Tomorrow I will be taking my buddy and his son out to zero their 30-06 rifles (a Ruger and a Krico) in advance of taking them to my hunting camp next week. My friend just texted me from Walmart and said they had Federal 150gr SP for less than $15 per box. I told him that would do. Tomorrow we dial in a new Nikon scope on the Krico rifle.

Spent three glorious hours outdoors shooting this afternoon. The Krico and the M77 are both dialed in. I am impressed with how the inexpensive Power Shok 150gr ammo from Wally World performed in both rifles. I expected my friend to shoot his fancy German rifle well (he shot competitively in the Navy, and bought the gun when stationed overseas) but was surprised to see it print 3 shots into an inch @100yds. His 17yr old son's Ruger did almost as well, and that was with a teenager on the trigger. I am totally confident they can get the job done when I put them in the woods next Thursday.

Well, nothing today. But, so far I've sighted in the folllowing;

Win 70 in .30/06 ( rarely hunt with a rifle any more)

T/C Contender with barrels chambered in .44 Mag and 7-30 Waters (my favorite)

I've shot the following to check the sights, in case I decide to use some milsurps;
US 1903A3
German K98 8mm mauser
Enfield No4Mk1 .303 British

Tomorrow I'm going to be shooting;
Swiss K31 7x57 Swiss
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine

I'm going to take the challenge of using handgun this year...using my 4" GP100 (see avatar). I would like a 5"...but the 4" will have to do for this year.

This is the 180 grain cast I will be using...I've run about 300 rounds of this through the revolver over the past year and am pretty confident in what I can hit 75 yard and under...going to try and be patient with it...hopin' for under 50 yards though: https://www.buffalobore.com/index.ph...t_detail&p=396

I have been shooting all summer long and into the fall with Ruger M77 MK II in 308. Using Hornaday whitetail ammo, 150 Gr. From 70 yards out to 200 yards my rifle is right on. I am ready as ever and can't wait. MY wife, who has medical issues, hopes I connect on a nice buck to give me some happiness.

I sighted in my newest rifle, a Marlin 1895GBL in 45-70 with Hornady 325 gr Leverevolutions. I also outfitted it with a Williams peep sight and I love it!! Also carrying my Ruger GP100!

I either use my 30-06 model 1903 Springfield 03A4, or my Remington 700 ADL 270 win I bought new in 1987. Both are great shooters. We do it the weekend before deer season, which will be the 19th.

Last year I used the 270. On sight in day, shooting Winchester 130 GR silvertips, @ 200 yards, the 3 holes were touching dead center in the bull.

Back in 1987, at Kmart, the rifle cost $225, & the 3 x 9 tasco scope cost me $19. 1/2 the paint is beat off it. The rifle has more gouges and scratches than any rifles I own from dragging it through the mountain laurel deer and bear hunting. I long lost count of how many deer its killed. Probably over 20. (1) bear, (1) mule deer, & (1) elk. I check it almost every year, but the 270 has NEVER been adjusted left to right since its been new. So I refuse to change the scope. It also came with a really good trigger. Ive never touched altering the rifle. And wont.

Its such a long range tack driver, my brothers named it the AT&T 270. Cause you can reach out and touch someone. I once shot a groundhog at about 550 yards. Killed the elk at over 600. My favorite rifle of all time.

If it aint broke,,, DONT fix it. .

Our gun season opens on the 19th. I'm going to shoot two older Rugers to make sure there is no change; my old No. in 7x57mm from 76 and my 50th Anniversary 357 Blackhawk. The third is a rifle a Henry 357 lever gun. One place I sit, deer would have to be within 50 yards for me to see it. Both 357s will be shooting 180 gr. cast bullets. These have proven great for me in the handgun, hopefully in the rifle also. Will have a varity of .357 ammo with me to try on the range.
