Big Bore/ Small Bore Combo?

Do any of my fellow hunters out there do this? By that I mean carrying a rifle/ handgun combination at opposite ends of the power spectrum. I usually hunt with a bolt-action rifle in .30-06 or .270Win and will have a Single Six or Buckmark .22 on my belt. Conversely, I sometimes will carry a rimfire rifle (.17HMR, .22lr, or .22WRM) to the stand or blind. Then you're likely to see a 6.5" Blackhawk .357 or 7.5" Redhawk .44 on my belt.
I took a buck last Saturday morning, so I grabbed my light varmint rifle to take to the blind for an evening hunt. It's a Marlin .22mag and it really shoots its favorite loads well. The trusty .44 was along in case something big came in close. The noisy armadillo or mangy coyote I was hoping for never showed up but it was a lovely evening in the blind.

I always carry something bigger when going with a rimfire or using bird shot. 44 mag on the belt while squirrel hunting or bird hunting. If I'm using a deer rifle, I normally don't carry anything else because it should be enough for protection. Thinking about an air gun while deer hunting though because those squirrels are a pain.

When deer hunting with a rifle I'll have a little .22 pistol along mainly for snakes in the trail or to deliver a finishing shot. Bird hunting i'm usually weighed down with shells, and dove or pheasant loads are hell on snakes. No pistol on me. Same thing in turkey season. Carrying a stool, shotgun, vest full of calls and decoy, binoculars, and a Thermacell, there's no room for a pistol. I just carry a couple of dove/target loads for snakes. A cottonmouth isn't worth a $3.00 turkey shell. If a stray hog happens by within 30yds my plan is to insert 1 3/4oz of copper-plated #4's in his ear-hole and hope for the best.

I almost always carry a .357, with ratshot, for snakes, when hunting.

I always have something on me when in the woods. Even if it's just a 9mm. I prefer my revolvers for woods though.
