Commander vs Government Models:

I can't think of a single 1911 .22 Conversion Kit with a longer Dust Cover to fit with a Commander Model

I have the Colt Series 80 Kit for my Delta Gold Cup
Top Upper seen here (The middle is a 80 Series 9mm Upper)

Yes, I can see the difference. Thanks DenStinett, I appreciate it...I was just on the Kimber site, the FAQ said their conversion kit will fit their 5" and 4" models. Gonna see if Bass PS has one in stock here that I can see n feel to make sureit will fit. Advantage Arms makes a kit for the Commander but it's not available right now, ?? no idea why, Tried contacting them but, won't accept email and phone is answering system only...frustrating! I returned the standard kit because of the gap between frame n slide....and the search goes on!

Good-luck with your quest

Ok thanks Iowegan, I returned the Advantage Arms kit because of that gap and just picked up a Kimber kit. It fits just fine but now, I have a different issue. The slide seems to get hung up on the stubby part that protrudes from the frame, don't know what you call that part, it seems to ride on a leaf spring down in the grip part of the frame. It's like the slide hits a speed bump. So, my question is: is that leaf spring too strong making it hard for the slide to travel correctly and does it need to be replaced or is the Kimber slide defective or normal? The 45 slide rides over that part with no hikup. I haven't fired the conversion yet as I broke a couple ribs the day before I received it. Has anyone had this issue and is it fixable or will it go away with use? Thanks, Al

Ya, I tried to order that kit but CTD was out of stock and the AA co. didn't have any either. Tried contacting AA but, couldn't email and the phone gets you tied up in the auto answer sys...it's a bummer. I asked CTD if the standard kit would fit my SR 1911 CMD and they said YES but, it left the gap that I didn't like so, see ya, it went back to CTD.

Not sure, but my guess is; you're talking about the Disconnector:

Don't mess with THAT

Lube it well and smooth-out the area on the underside of the Conversion Slide, where the "Button" rides

Returned the AA kit n got a Kimber. It covers nicely, no gap but the slide hits a speed bump in it's travel...any idea what n why?

Two shooters next to me at my local range yesterday were both using Kimber conversion kits, used their kits on several different commander sized 1911s and were very happy with them. Both commented that some 22LR ammo was problematic, and that they preferred CCI ammunition. It appears Kimber has kits for both 5 full size 1911s and also for their 4 barrel 1911s. There seems to be quite a bit of discussion of these kits on various 1911 forums which might be worth checking out.

Ya, I suppose it would be difficult to manufacture one kit that fits all the 1911's out there. But, Kimber says it will fit all 1911's both 5" n 6" models so, we'll give it a try.

A lot of these Conversion Unit flat HATE some types of .22lr Ammo
Remington:
They have weak Crimps and seam to fold while trying to ramp into the Chamber
They are also know for not holding up to spec .... different sized Rims and other issues
Winchester:
They are by far, the dirtiest Rounds out there
Exposed Lead:
They all have a type of wax on the Bullet
These are good for some uses (like Revolvers), but not for Auto Loaders
Because that wax gums-up the works
Some worse than others
