MK III 22/45 Weaver Accessory Rail

Is there a shorter rail available than the one that comes with the pistols? I only need to attach a red dot from time to time.

Not that I know of, most folk here (AU) have cut them down.

I had thought of that. My MK III Target with 5 1/2" bull barrel looks clunky with it installed, but I have a MK III 22/45 with a 4 1/2" barrel on it's way and know the rail will spoil the looks of that pistol.
I installed the rail on my MK III Target shortly after I got it to use a red dot sight, but recently removed it after installing a HI-Viz front sight and practicing with iron sights again, but would like to have a rail installed all the time.
Also the factory rail won't allow the gun to fit in my Fobus holster.
Someone recently posted a picture of an aftermarket streamlined looking rail but it may have been a special type for use with a particular red dot. Also, it was rather expensive.

I've always cut down the Ruger supplied scope base on my Marks, too, but before you go cutting anything, check the, new from Volquartsen, dovetail scope mount for Marks. It means using one of the red dots, such as the Bushnell TRS-25, that mount with only one bolt, but I'm already using a couple of these on my Rugers and they work great.

I took a look and that would work but I would like to keep the iron sights on all of the time and just be able to attach a red dot like my TRS-25 when I am in the mood. Thanks for the reply.
