I carry my SP101 every where I go and I like the way feels. I saw a CD the other day on the Crimson Trace laser. I will tell you I was impressed. I looked up the model that would fit my gun and found it to be the LG-303. Does anyone have this model installed on their gun? If so have you found the grips comfortable to hold. I replace the factory grips for a Hogue on my gun and I like them fine. Would I like the grips with the Crimson Trace? Where would be the cheapest place to get the Crimson Trace laser?
Thanks, Bill

Do you want a CT or do you need a CT?

Bill, I have crimson trace grips on my 1911, mp340, and sr9c. All I can say they
are a great aid for training. Keep in my what the experts say about self defense distance encounters with 7-10 feet being the norm. You would be better off to practice point shooting at those distances until it becomes second nature. I will say that I do feel more comfortable having the CT on my firearms at night where
a laser might make the difference your surviving. I say go for it... you won't be disapointed.

Bill, I have the LG-303 grips on my wife's SP101 DAO and like them very much. If you like the Hogue grip, I think you'll like the CT. Both my wife and I find it very comfortable to shoot. I might add that my wife has very small, weak hands, but has no problem with these grips. I should also add that she only shoots standard pressure .38 loads in her SP101.
Both of us have had cataract surgery and can see fine at a distance without glasses with our implants, but for close work -- such as reading or seeing the front sight of a handgun clearly -- we need glasses. Seeing the red dot is no problem without glasses.
I wish CT made a similar grip for the LCR. The LG-303 rubber overmold with a three-finger gripping surface is much more pleasant to shoot than the CT grips made for the LCR, gun weight notwithstanding.
a Google search shows most places asking $279 for the LG-303. I've bought a couple sets of CT grips from Smyrna Shooting Supply. Their service is excellent. Their price is also $279, but they having free shipping right now on the grips. Here's a link: Ruger SP-101, Mark II, Blackhawk, Single Six and P-Series Auto LaserGrips by Crimson Trace |

Bill I've used Crimson Trace grips on any gun I've had that CT made their grips for. I'm that sold on them. For price just do a Google search for CT and you'll get a bunch of places. The last couple of pairs I got were from Optics Planet and they were very reasonable even offering the CT sponsored 50 dollars off. So a great price and a refund, can't beat it. As for that model, I'm more familiar with their LG-304 which fits the GP-100 series and the Ruger Alaskan (mine was the latter). It was just like going back to Ruger's original grip for the gun (before they went Hogue). I put some ivory panels in their grips and the gun/grip combo looks sharp, that and you have the added security of the laser sight. Seven foot or not, at night sights are all but impossible to see, yet that laser glows like the dickens for a point and shoot. Smithy.

I had the CT grip on my SP101 and replaced it with a Hogue rubber grip. I think if you poll law enforcement officers on this site you'll find that they don't recommend laser sights. You should be aiming at the threat posed and not aiming at the bouncing red dot.
For daytime shooting, I changed the front sight on my 2" to a Meprolight ( Meprolight Tru-Dot Front Sight Ruger SP101 Steel Blue Tritium Green). As for acquiring a target at night, that's where a flashlight comes into play.
Also, I found the Hogue rubber grip to be easier on my hand since it's cushioned whereas the CT grip is hard.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

| I've heard a little conflicting views to the above. Goshen sights have indicated that night sights in a nighttime conflict certainly brings out the sights and sight picture, but robs you of your normal, non night sight view of the target. No I've never had to use a gun in a duress situation, but usually my red dot is not bouncing, rather steady actually as any minor movement is immediately noticeable (unlike oped sights). Now out past 15 yards the dot might get to bouncing, but most conflicts occur in less than that. The laser (as CT's switch is a momentary contact grip switch) is an immediate on or off proposition so you don't have to go around with an always on laser. Go with point shooting as you walk your property and secure your loved ones. Barricading your family in a safe room and calling 911 should be the first thing done as you're grabbing you weapon. But if that area is breached, then I'd be very glad I had the assurance in the dark that the red dot = where the bullet was heading. Smithy.

I thank each and every one of you that answered my question. That's one reason I like this web site. I have ordered a Laserlyte for my Taurus Mill Pro PT111. I have read pros and cons about them, but my wife thought since the PT111 holds 12, that I would be better off getting that sight. I will wait and see if it holds up, if not I will send it back and get the CT.

One thing to think of dirttrackdemon, is that Crimson Trace were the first, the leaders, the innovators. All the others are also rans and usually do not come up to CT standards. Kind of like Charter Arms revolvers that are nothing more than a Smith copy. No thanks, I'd rather have the Smith, or in this case, Crimson Trace. Smithy.
