Has anyone bought these from Ruger> | I looked into this way back when I bought my SR1911. They are VERY hard to come by. I wound up solving my problem by ordering through Ruger's parts department.
Why did I want them? I bought an Ultimate Gear 1911 knife that uses 1911 grip panels. My SR1911 has stock panels and I wanted my knife to match. Shopruger.com doesn't sell the stock SR1911 grip panels. But... their parts department does!
But I never found the medallions that I wanted.

You won't find any link to buy them on Ruger's website. That's because they are parts, not accessories.
If you want to buy medallions, call Ruger directly. 603 865.2442. Chooser the New Hampshire plant from the phone menu.
The black eagles are #XR-52. The silver eagles are XR05200.

I guess there are a lot of suckers that buy them though or the sellers wouldn't be listing them.

Does Ruger parts produce an actual parts list with part numbers?

Jim | I don't think they have any master parts list available to the public. You can download the .pdf manual on any of their guns. These will have an exploded parts view with part numbers listed.
Lots of their parts numbers are the same because the same parts are used in different models.

I guess there are a lot of suckers that buy them though or the sellers wouldn't be listing them. | I did say older medallions, meaning the ones that are no longer used by Ruger, or available from them. Sometimes folks want a medallion to replace a missing one, or so their custom grips will have medallions correct for their gun's manufacture date. These are more scarce and get a higher price.
Current medallions are often overpriced by third-party sellers.

I bought 4 Silver Eagles with black backgrounds on eBay for $20 shipped.
But the quality seems low and the chrome trim chips off easily during shipping if they are not individually wrapped, mine were not so wrapped
I want the Silver Eagles with the Red background that come on the stock MKII black grips
Like these

Current medallions are often overpriced by third-party sellers. | OK, if you want to talk hard a$$ collector, their are various forms of the old black eagle medallions. If you're talking collector guns then one may very well want the original black eagles from the original mold and no longer sold by Ruger.
But if you're talking in generalities about black eagles or silver eagles...the black eagles Ruger is using currently are 100% nicer than any of the older original black eagles that they ever used.
And of course if you buy the current silver eagles, they will not have the entwined SR on them. They will have only the R on them.
I am a custom grip maker and I can tell you that most people buying custom grips with medallions order what they think will look better. That is black or silver eagles. They don't care what originally came on the gun.
But it's also true that 90% of the people that order custom grips from me don't want medallions in them.

But the quality was low as these are plastic and the chrome trim chips off easily during shipping if they are not individually wrapped, mine were not so wrapped | I have never seen any silver eagles with black background that were plastic. I've purchased a lot of them from Ruger and none of them were ever plastic.
I assume that you're talking about the 1/2" diameter medallions?
To my knowledge Ruger has never sold and still doesn't sell the red medallions. However if you want red, why not just buy the black ones and repaint them? I used to repaint old black eagle medallions all the time before the became available from Ruger again.
Just coat the medallions with paint remover. Wait a minute or so and brush off the paint with a tooth brush under running water.
Get yourself a little can of red paint and a small model paint brush. Brush on the paint. Don't worry about getting it on the eagle, just coat the whole medallion. Let the paint set up for a few minutes. Then, holding the medallion by the post on the back, run the face of it down a sheet of printer paper. The paint will come off of all but the background.
One can not order grips from me with red backed medallions because I respect Ruger's rights. I order the black eagles and silver eagles from them and they are aware that I'm a grip maker and use these in my custom grips. But for some reason, Ruger does not sell the red backed grips so I don't use them in my grips.
But for your own personal use, I don't think Ruger is going to care if you repaint your own medallions.

Yes the 1/2" ones.
The Silver ones I bought on the bay look just like the ones in my SR1911 wood grips. But I do prefer the red backgrounds like I posted in post 10 above. Those medallions are cast and I have purchased them recently from shopruger.com as the entire grip panels. They also have the entwined SR on them.

As I said, I'm a grip maker and purchase medallions from Ruger all the time. There are a recent purchase. They are not plastic. |
