When the medallions started changing over from "SR" to "R", I had the foresight to grab a bunch of the "SR" ones in both the black/silver and the red/silver. A few remain for pending projects. The "R" ones are still readily available from Ruger as cary has shown.
I did put a few sets on eBay to see and well, a few one those "suckers" bid them right up. Once they stopped being available from Ruger, a part can see a pretty good increase in value. Evidently, if people are bidding there's a demand.

Evidently, if people are bidding there's a demand. | I have no problem with the SR medallions being sold for whatever someone is willing to pay for them. It's called supply and demand. If they are no longer available at Ruger then of course the price and the demand is going to go up.
Of course there are always the people that are too dumb to realize that Ruger parts can be purchased directly from Ruger. Hmmm...imagine that...buying Ruger parts right from Ruger!! If they want to pay $15 for a set of medallions that one can purchase directly from Ruger for $5, then that's their problem.
So is it ethical to purchase the medallions from Ruger for $5 and sell them on Ebay for $15? That's a Buy It Now price, not a bid up price. I guess it's a personal choice. Some people just don't set much store in ethics.

wPm | Some people are actually not that hip on parts at Ruger. My two previous orders before my last one for black eagles resulted in them sending me silver eagles, even though my invoice had the correct part number XR-52 for the black eagles.
Then when I called to complain the answer I got was "Maybe they were out of the black eagles".
So they sent the silver eagles instead????? I didn't actually say that to the phone lady because I didn't want to make her out to be a fool but that makes about as much sense as if I had ordered an ejector rod housing and they were out of them so they decided to send me a loading gate instead.
Go figure. I know mistakes can happen but when you order a part, you do not expect them to send you some other part because they were out of the part you ordered.
But I've dealt with Ruger parts for many years now and all in all the parts ladies do try to do what they can to help you. After all, they are not technicians or gun smiths. |

Ethics...it's something that fewer and fewer people have any more. It's so much a "more for me" society that most care little if they can take advantage of another. With these auctions in question, if it's a true auction and people bid the item up...whose fault then? There's avenues to get almost any part at a lower price. Some just don't have the time, knowledge or want to make the effort to find it so they go the easy route which can often cost more. All personal choice. Most of ebay is just that now. On the other hand, if one's a buyer and a seller is offering something up well under the value or cost elsewhere is it an unethical buyer that takes advantage of that seller or should they say "hey no, I gotta give you a bunch more 'cause it's worth 2x what you're asking"?
As for one part A, get part B...in a lot of cases I simply see it as part A being no longer available and having been replaced with part B. Advanced notice isn't always given as the"fine print" notices handle all that. See that quite often.
I forget the woman's name my brother deals with at Ruger for parts, but she's always very helpful. Heck, she's directed customers calling in to him for parts they no longer service or provide parts for.

I contacted Ruger in Prescott about a month ago, to inquire about the Red background Medallions they use in the MkIII panels, & was told by C.S., that they do not have access to them because they do not make their own grip panels.
Also, the last time I ordered medallions, I was told that the Black Eagle Medallions were out of stock, & no longer available by the Ruger C.S. Rep. at Newport, NH. They always check on availability before completing my orders.

Just bite the bullet and repaint a set like I told you, it's not exactly rocket science.

I have a Ruger Standard that my father bought new in 1950 for $37.50. Those old guns only had the medallion on the left grip. It was a red eagle on a silver background and no S or R in the medallion. My medallion is missing. I would love to replace it with an original. It’s been about 5 years, but I contacted Ruger and they sent me free of charge two silver eagles on red background with SR in the eagle. Not what I wanted. It seems like the only way I can find these old medallions is to buy a set of grips. Not easy to come by, and probably around $50 or so. I found a guy a couple of years ago on another forum who had a set, but he dropped out of the deal. Talk about hard to find expensive medallions.

I just got several sets and all have the red eagles at a lot lower cost than buying them on eBay. |
