| Hi Viz or XS big dot on a SP101?
Thinking of changing the front sight on my Sp 101, I need something I can see better as my Old eyes are not what they used to be, Any reviews on sights you have tried? Thanks Scott

Here's what I installed on my SP101 and it works fine.

Note the above sight that jcohen24 linked to WILL lower your POI quite a bit. The sight is quite a bit taller than stock. I have the sight, and enjoy it, but I definitely had to adjust my sight picture significantly. I now have the front sight sticking up over the rears sights quite a bit. The truglo dot is actually centered on the tops of the rears sights.
With a 3" SP101 this can be an advantage. I find with this new sight picture I can acquire a target very quickly.

Is there any thing you can do to make the rear sight better, easy to see?

Unless you have REALLY bad eyes I would opt for the regular size sight rather than the big dots. They will obliterate the target and the farther the target the more of it will be covered.
I have XS standard on an LCR, and they are very nice sights.
Your choices have two different purposes.
The HiViz will be a better choice for outdoor range work where there is abundant light. Indoors they aren't much better than a ramp sight.
For indoors, low light and especially self defense the night sight will be a better choice.
I chose Meprolights for the SP 101 38/357 since I might carry it some, and the HiViz for the sp101 9mm, since I use it mostly as a range toy.
They both perform well. |

I put the HiViz sights on my GP. Love them. I will caution you though that they can be not so great quality wise. I had to use some super glue to prevent the front rod from falling out. Since then they've seen hundreds of .357 and haven't budged.

I'm no huge fan of the Hi Viz with the interchangeable tubes held in by a 2 cent piece of brass.......I have one, but it seems to fragile for any serious use.
I like Marble's fiber optic sights a lot better, they are not as "bright" as the Hi Viz but are a lot more durable for field use. Gemini makes a fiber optic sight for SP101's and fixed sight GP100's but I haven't tried them yet.
I also am a huge fan of the XS Big Dots, I have a standard dot on a 6" GP100 right now and also have a Big Dot waiting for when I get a 4" .327 GP100. IMO they work far better with the adjustable sight guns, since you can use the V notch rear and adjust the rear sight accordingly.
On a fixed sight gun, you are stuck with that square rear notch and you can't file down a "dot" sight For the SP101 I would recommend the Meprolight more, over the XS dot. I have Mepros on a GP100 and they are top notch, I plan to use the SP101 Mepro front sight on a fixed sight GP100.

My fix seems to have held up to some pretty steady use though and hasn't shown any signs of loosening yet. Unfortunately my choices are rather limited being in Canada. Those XS sights do look sweet.

Thanks for all the good advice I am going with the Meprolight being I will carry it a lot, I don't want any thing falling off like some said of the Hi-viz. Thanks again.
