GP100 Wiley Clapp sights replacement

hey everyone.. i've tried to search the forum before posting, but cannot find anything.. i've even googled it and cannot find anything..

I have a GP100 Wiley Clapp/TALO edition. I like the sights, but prefer mepro or trijicon night sights..

Would anyone know what I can replace the sights with? I checked Meprolights site, and the Kimber 1911 sights look close, but they are to long.

ALSO, my front fiber optic site is loose, and slides in and out with just my fingers. I called Ruger and they are sending me a new one. I hope it's just the sight and not the dovetail slot ...

Any help is greatly appreciated..

Thank you,

-Frank

The sights are made by Novak. I contacted them about a front night sight and they said they could custom make one, but in about 4 months I have not heard back from them. I have been focused on some other things recently, but had it on my list to contact them again.

Thanks,

WJR

yeah.. i called them too a few months ago... they have the rear, it's from a Colt 380 .. but the front they don't have.. and told me the same, a few months.. so I also said i would call back..

but i sent my GP100 in due to the front site being loose on mine.. i could move it in and out with my fingers ... Ruger sent me 2 new ones, and they both did the same thing...

so i went back to the gun shop, and they sent it in for repair.. i had the gun for 2 weeks... never holstered, stayed in the case, and only shot once, 150 rounds.. I was pissed.. i paid a lot for that thing...

i really liked the gun, but was mad that they used some obscure sites that you can't find replacements for...

Just bought a Wiley Clapp GP100 myself. Found it on an auction site and paid $650 so I thought I did OK on price (NIB). On mine there is a small gap where the front of the trigger guard meets the frame. It's a little thing but considering it's a "limited production run, special edition" I was a tad disappointed to see it. How about yours? My sights are fine by the way. Or they are so far - only put 100 rounds through it.

Wow. No gap on the trigger guard. It should all be one solid piece.

I received mine back. They replaced the whole barrel assembly. The sight is now tight, no problems so far.

You should call Ruger and tell them about the gap. I will check mine when I get home tonight but I don't remember having that, and I would have noticed! Lol.

By the way, nice price, I paid $100 more than you. But still worth it, I love the 3" barrel. I originally wanted a 4" but this thing caught my eye.

It's a very small gap - I didn't notice it at first. You have to catch it in the light at just the right angle and you can see a small daylight gap. I can't decide how much it bothers me. Now that I know it's there I tend to see it more often but no one I have shown the gun to and let handle it has seemed to notice. I checked the same place on a couple of other Ruger revolvers and found one other one with a similar "flaw". It's a minor thing like the slightly under rotated barrel I have on my SP101. Got comparing that and found others with slightly under and over rotated barrels. It must be the human element that plays a part in gun manufacturing. I was surprised to see any visible defects in a limited production distributer exclusive model.

I put another 100 rounds or so through it yesterday and had a grand time. I let several other people shoot it and everyone seemed to really like it. The trigger is best "out of the box" trigger I've had yet on a new Ruger. I also own another GP100 with a 6" barrel and I love 'em both. The 6" is a bit more accurate of course and I do like the ability to adjust elevation and windage in the rear sight. After I switched the front sight to a Hi-Viz it has become my favorite sidearm to carry when hunting. But the Wiley Clapp is soooo cool! It's my son's new favorite handgun.

Here's a few pictures trying to capture what I'm talking about. How does it compare with yours?

P.S. Forgot to add I'm glad to hear Ruger took care of you. I have yet to send anything back in yet but I hear good things about Ruger CS.

I just checked mine.. i don't have that little gap.. mine is completely flush with the frame.

have you taken it apart to clean and put it back together? .. i've done mine a couple times, taking off the whole trigger group, cleaning, oiling, and putting it back onto the frame.

you got me worried for a second, lol.. i was like.. OH CRAP! I MAY HAVE THAT! ....

Now that's a thought. I haven't had this one apart yet - perhaps it may come back together with a less noticable gap. Worth a try to see. Like I said, I have other Ruger revolvers that have smaller gaps and visible lines along that joint where the two surfaces meet but this one is more pronounced. The gun does shoot well though - put a few hundred more rounds through it over the past several days and enjoyed it immensely. My 6" GP100 has an adjustable rear sight and I kinda wish this one did too so I could tweak the sight picture a bit. I set up my 6" so the target sits on top of the sight picture (like a pumpkin on a fence post) but with this one I have to place the front sight on top of the target. Just have to remember when I'm shooting both at the range.

OK - had some time to take it apart this afternoon. First thing I noticed was the takedown pin was missing from the "Lett Standard" grip. The place for the takedown pin was molded into the rubber but no pin. Does yours have the takedown pin?

The trigger guard assembly is shifted back slightly but that is clearly where the factory fitted everything together and it's where it belongs. It is not possible to improve the fit without undertaking some serious filing/smoothing and that is not something I would even think about with this revolver.

No one who has looked at the gun, handled it, shot it, etc. has noticed or commented on the "flaw". And it certainly does not seem to affect function in any way. So I will probably just let it go for now.

As the wise Iowegan once wrote: "Ruger manufactures a strong and durable revolver with acceptable fit and finish. External cosmetics and internal fit and finish may not compare favorably with more expensive revolvers."

Yeah.. as long as it functions fine, i wouldn't worry about it.. if it gets to the point of annoyance, i'm sure Ruger would take great care of you..

as for the takedown pin.. i had one from when i bought it. When i sent it in for repair, i took i kept it home so it wouldn't get lost at Ruger.

They replaced a new one in my grips, so now i have 2 .. lol.. i keep one in my tool box for when i have to disassemble the revolver, and the other stays in the grips.. but i don't have them on the gun now, .. i have the Hogue Tamer grips.. i love how those feel on this GP100, great grips..

Call Ruger, they will send you 5 of them if you ask, lol.. I called when my front sight was loose, and asked for a replacement, thinking it was just the sight that was the problem. They sent me 2 replacements...

Turned out that the 2 new sights did the same thing. That is when i sent it back to ruger, and they replaced the whole barrel assembly..

Satisfied customer with the revolver and their customer service..

Sounds like Ruger took good care of you. I think I will call them and ask for a take down pin. Maybe I'll end up with extras! I have bigger concerns with my SP101 (there's a thread with pictures in the Double Action forum titled "Barrel Alignment") and I expect I'll be talking to Ruger about that anyway.

I have the factory Hogue grip on my 6" GP100 and like it. I'll keep the Lett grip on this one for now but I do wonder how well that pretty wood insert will hold up.

Yeah, their customer service was great. They didn't even think of charging me for the sights. I asked how much for replacements and the lady was like "oh don't worry honey, we got it."

As for the Lett grips, that is why I took them off. To save the wood inserts. They are nice for display, but I don't want to use them at the range, rather tear up the hogue grips that cost $15-20. They are tough as nails anyway.

I'll check out your other thread. I don't see ruger not fixing this for you.
