This is a discussion on Trausch Grips within the Handgun Accessories forums, part of the Pistol & Revolver Forum category; I'm thinking that I want to replace the stock grips on my SP101 with Trausch grips. What experiences and opinions do you have?...

I bought one. It was very big compared to the original grip. The size made it have a better feel with recoil but I couldn't get over how bulky it made the gun. And it's a little nit picky but the screw is enormous and no slotted tip fits it without chewing the slot up some. It's made big to use a coin but I'm not in the habit of doing that. So they now sit in the grips box.

Nice grips! A little fiddling is needed to get them to fit properly (a little detail a customer shoudl not have to do, but, whatever.....). After some fiddling, they do fit, and fill the hand and look pretty nice. Nice enough that I left them on.....see here:

I absolutely LOVE my Trausch grips! Mine are on the 4" SP101 in .22lr...and they make a huge difference with that little pistol! The grip is a nice fit in my hand and with the .22lr having very little recoil, it's nice! I had put them on the .357mag...but the grip angle was just a little steeper than the factory original, and it actually increased felt recoil and muzzle-flip, which I didn't like! I didn't mind it so much, but with the Hogue Rubber grips, this muzzle-flip is negated, so I retained the Hogue's on my carry gun and put the Trausch on the .22lr. NOTE: My wife has longer fingers than I do...so the Trausch on the .22lr is a good fit as she LOVES to shoot the 4" .22lr SP!

While I do recommend the Trausch grip for the Ruger SP101...it's not for people with small hands like I have!

I do want to second the Hogue Monogrip for the SP101. That is what mine currently wears. I have so far tried the Pachmayr Compac, Trausch, and the Lett factory grip, but have yet to try the Eagle or Badger options.

Trausch grips are on several of our SPs and they are by far the best grip we have ever used on the SP-101. I cannot shoot well with the stock grip as it is way too small and gets lost in my palm. The Trausch seem to hold the hand in the same position each time for more consistent shooting. We have the black Trausch grips and not the plain white Trausch as in the first photo.

Just took a picture of the Trausch grips on various flavors of SP-101. Excuse the glare:

These have held up well to outdoors abuse (rubbing against trees, rocks, etc.).
Use others such as the Hogue one finger wood grip or laser grips on the 2.25" SPs in both calibers in order to reduce the overall size of the firearm.

MidLife had it right. And much more secure in the hand than factory grips.
I have them on both my SP's.

I'd never heard of them until now, but after checking the site out, they do look nice.
Too bad they don't offer one for the Security Six, only the Speed Six.

Doesn't the Security-Six and the Speed-Six take the same grips? For some reason, I was thinking that they did...maybe I'm wrong??? Either way, the Trausch grip is a great grip.

All the Security Sixes I have seen are square butt while all the Speed Sixes are round butt.

Got the Hogues today. Two minute install, and they fit perfectly. If it wasn't a holiday weekend I'd go try them out tomorrow. Just fondling them I like the way they feel.

Which begs the question:

Is there some info on how to round-butt the Security-Six?

I have seen one that a guy started but the serial number prevented it from being a perfect round. He ended up just rounding it off and it stuck out some. It kind of had a skull crusher ( like on some older Merwin Hulbert models) look to it. But I have read where other guys did it.

Found this old thread while doing a grip related search...Jacques Trausch will personally modify his TJ84R grip for a Security Six; he's done 2 for me (on the second, he carved out a crescent section of the left grip panel to better accomodate a speed loader). They're simply a superb grip, making the Security Six feel like an autopistol grip; they make for a quantum improvement in handling.
