Redhawk & SP 101 Grips change.

I want to change the grips on my Redhawk .44 magnum and my SP101 .357 Magnum. I have never changed any grips on any of my revolvers or Semi Auto's.Looking for some help,I want them to look good and adsorb the shock from firing the revolvers. Any suggestion please ?

For the SP101, I would suggest Hogue, either rubber or exotic wood. For the Redhawk, I have never found I grip I was completely happy with. Closest thing I found that I liked was the stock wooden grip and a Tyler T grip added.

I actually prefer the Lett style grip currently on you SP101. The cheesy plastic side panels can be changed out for wood, pearl, horn, etc inserts to change the look. If you want a more hand filling grip, try the Pachmyr Diamond Pro grip.
For the Redhawk, I've tried Hogue wooden grips. They would maintain the same grip feel as the rubber Hogues you have on it now. I personally don't care for finger groove grips and found the Pachmyr Presentation grip to be a great fit.

I'm partial to the insert grips on the SP so I just put in new Rosewood panels. The 4" 44 mag Redhawk I left as is. They seem to absorb the shock for me. I don't have a large mitt.

Don't have a Redhawk, so I can't speak for it, but I have put Hogue, one piece wooden grips, with finger grooves on both my SP101 and my GP100 and I am very happy with them. Very comfortable in the hand and great control.

I too prefer the factory grips on my SP101.

But I do like to dress them up with some custom wood inserts.

Hogue grips can be ordered from the manufacturer direct. If wood is desired they have a number of different types. The grip can be ordered with no finger grooves , one, or three with or without a contrasting grip cap and with or without checkering. If you have a small or large hand Hogue will make the grip to fit your hand (so will Herretts or Badger). I have Hogues with on finger groove on my Speed Six and SP101. I have had Redhawks with the Hogue wood grip and Herrett Ropers. I liked the Roper the best on it and had it made to fit my hand (9.5 -10 size). Another place to look for wood grips is on Ebay for Thai makers such as Jaruwan. The prices are very reasonable.
