HAM

I recently bought a new (to me) blued S&W Model 34 revolver. The previous owner advised me to use a "lined" holster, apparently to prevent damage to the blueing. I own a like new S&W holster made from 2 layers of stiff leather with the gun facing smooth leather all around. I will not store the gun in the holster.

My questions are:

1) Is this the type of "lining" that will help preserve the guns finish?

2) Do you advise using neat's-foot or some other oil to soften the leather?
