hello, I reently acquired a new Ruger sp101 2 1/4 inch barrel .357 mag. its the talo edition with the engraving. anyway I like the look of the factory grips, but they do not fit my hand very well. I always used a Hogue monogrip on my daily carry sp101 and love the fit of them. however, they cover up a good portion of the engraving on my new sp101. Does anyone know of any fancier, full size wood grips that will not cover the engraving? I'm posting a picture of the model I have
I have seen those, and look like nice well made grips, they look wide, but shorter than the monogrips. and appear to cover the engraving still. this search may be a lost cause and ill have to stick to monogrips haha
you can see my issue in these images, I know very minor and knitpicky. the factory grip doesn't cover any of it, but the monogrip, and almost every wood grip ive seen will
I may just be too picky lol I'm looking at the badger grips closer. I didn't realize they offer engraving, monograms and inlays as well, the boot grip is too short, but theyre other model is pretty nice, and pricey if you customize it. but I may order some
Not really, i actually sold my hogue grips and ordered a custom badger grip with my last name engraved on the side. Little pricey but man are they beautiful grips. Still cover a little engraving, but not as bad as the hogues did. By far the best grips you can get for the sp101
can you tell me how good the engraving is on this gun?
I have a chance to get one, nut lser engraving can vary quite a lot
some is very shallow while others have more depth and detail
thanx
dipper99 as revolver as nice as the SP101 Talo edition your gun deserves a nice set of wood grips personally I would still opt for the Hogue or a equivalent such as the Badger grips or possibly Eagle grips makes a very nice one for the SP101 as well. The Jauran grips out of Thailand that you can get either off of Amazon or Ebay these grips do require some extra fitting or modifications that I have read here on the Ruger Forum. I debated what to put on my Ruger SP101 08 MFG. 3 inch barreled .327 FM. this is a model thats not made any more. Well I tried the Rubber Hogue Mono Grips but finally settled on a set of the wood Hogue grips they are a tad larger in diameter and help tame the recoil of my revolver. I do and don't like the looks of the badger grips because of the way they are swept back design etc. I have seen some very nice designs in the Jauran grips that resemble in a smaller profile of the S&W target grips that are made for the SP101. But the SP101 Talo engraved model is a pricey and beautiful revolver that deserves a grip that will enhance the engraving. I do like your Wood Hogues that you have a picture of!
I have a few sets of Jaruwan grips for my 3' Sp101 and my GP100. Neither required any fitting and look and feel great, for me. My son has smaller hands and feels they are a bit big for him.
Seminole, personally I think the engraving is very nice. it wouldn't say its as deep and detailed as say a private master engraver, but as far as factory engraving goes I think it top notch. the talo edition is also only around 200 more than a stock sp101, so its much more affordable. I'm personally really happy with the looks of the gun. and the stock grips look nice, just didn't fit my hand well.
gquccol, I think the the Hogue grips fit my hand the best, and look really great. I have the camo laminate on my other sp101, and you saw earlier in the thread the rose wood on my talo model. they are for sure the biggest grips I came across, but bulge well under my shirt. as nice as the Hogue are, the badger is a huge step up in finish and fit. really nice glossy finish. I also really liked the jauran grips, and was gonna order those, but he didn't have what I wanted in stock at the time. the picture in the reply shows what I got, with different engraving. same walnut color though.
the jauran grips run around 38 plus shipping
Hogue is 50 to 80 depending where an when
badger grips were 85 not engraved, 140 I think with 5 letters
