Ultra Dot vs Millet for Ruger MKIII

I am looking to fit my MKIII 678GC with a red dot scope. 2 rigs I am considering:

UltraDot Red Dot Sight
30mm Tube 1x 4 MOA Dot
with Weaver-Style Rings Silver
$139

or

Millett Red Dot Sight
30mm Tube 1x Variable Sized Dot (3, 5, 8, 10 MOA)
with Weaver-Style Rings Silver
$89.99

Just looking to target shoot/plink from distances beyond what's possible with open sights.

Any suggestions, comments or alternatives would be really apprecicated

pawn, Both are very good buys. I just ordered (got it today) a Millett red dot from Midway USA for a newly acquired MK III Hunter. They are currently on sale for $61.99. I have a variable dot 30mm Millett on a non-Ruger but in my opinion, it's not worth the extra money. I found the 3 MOA dot works best so I never change the switch. My new Millet is a 1" tube 3 MOA dot, just like the one I put on my KMKIII512 a year ago. The 30mm tube makes the scope kinda overwhelm the gun. Because there is no magnification, there's very little difference in field of view between the two. The only thing I don't like about the Millett is the vertical split rings. When you remove the scope, you lose zero. I replaced the rings with Weaver style horizontal split rings then later bought the high $$$ Ruger steel rings and base. I really like the Ruger mount system but honestly, the horizontal split Weaver style hold zero just as well.

I ended up going for the same red dot Iowegan, 1 inch (25mm) for my pistol. Thanks so much for your input. The Midway sale price is pretty tough to beat; it helped close the deal with me....

Kind Regards.

pawn, No, the Weaver rings in the link are for 22 tip off mounts with a 3/8" groove base. You want rings that will fit a standard Weaver base. Though the Weaver brand rings are "hell for stout", you can easily get by with the $11 Weaver style Barska rings on your MK III. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=164935
