| wanting to modify my 1911
first of all i would like to say i love my Rugers and this forum. i am a member of several forums but none compares to the Ruger forum as far as help and courtesy is concerned.
Now to my question; i would like to modify my 1911 (better trigger pull, better barrel and bushing and just anything i can do to customize it) i would like to order Wilson parts or some of the big name parts.
Now to the real big question: i would enjoy doing this my self (not to save money) but have no experience in this area what so ever but would be willing to buy books or videos to teach me how.
would this be possible

I am currently doing a few mods to my 1911. Here is a helpful step by step guide to the complete disassembly of the SR1911. Otherwise, go to Brownell's website and they have tons of videos that are outstanding. Ruger SR1911 Review: Part 4 - Disassembly |

biggun | Along with what is said above, there lots of good information on this site. The M1911 Pistol Organization You will need to register, but it is free and well worth it for the information there.

You mentioned Wilson's. Here's a nice book I've utilized for years. Wilson Combat 1911 Auto Maintenance Manual Book by Bill Wilson
Among the modifications you mentioned was trigger pull. This is a critical component and related to safety as well as going potentially automatic which is illegal. Polishing the sear and hammer, adjusting the sear spring, let me suggest, would best be done by a gunsmith with extensive skill with 1911s. A good trigger job is costly, but worth the cost. There are a ton of "drop in" sear and hammer kits out there, several very good, but requiring minor adjustments.

If you want to know the ins and outs of any 1911 get: The Colt .45 Automatic, A shop Manual, by Jerry Kuhnhausen. An excellent book for those that want to work on their own .45 autos, no matter what brand.
This and other books and videos can be found at Brownells.
