Unhappy Wolff 12# hammer spring heavier than stock?

I bought some Wolff springs for a GP100 and a SP101. I bought the Wolff 12# springs to lighten the pull a little without hurting reliability. The stock hammer springs are supposed to be 14#. I also bought the 10# return for the GP and the 8# return for the SP.

As it turns out the pull is heavier with the Wolff 12# hammer springs than with the stock springs. I noticed that the Wolff hammer springs are also longer than the stock ones. I wonder if they could have mislabeled some of their springs? Anybody else have this happen?

I guess I'll call Wolff and see what they have to say.

I called Wolff and they gave me the measurements for the 12# springs. They match what I bought.

Does anyone know if Ruger ships GPs and SPs with less than a 14# hammer spring now? That's the only thing I can come up with.

tglazie is an unknown quantity at this point
I am under the impression that stock mainsprings vary a great deal in their measured power.I only have one SP101 so I have nothing to compare my stock spring with. I will say mine was heavier than a Wolff 12#.

Did you purchase the gun new?

The SP101 I bought new. The GP100 is older and I got it used. It may have a different spring in it or it is just weak.

I am helping a friend do a buff and spring change on a new GP100 soon. I'll see what the deal is on that one.
