44 Mag Large Frame Vaqueros

I have a pair of the subject revolvers. They have had the lighter springs installed and the free spin power custom pawls. One of the revolvers seems to get tight (cocking the hammer) after shooting 20 rounds during a CAS match. It will cock but there is a drag on occasion. Also after the free spin pawls were installed they were spinning smooth with no noise. After shooting a match, now after cleaning one of the cylinders has a clicking sound when spinning. Any help suggestions on cause or fix would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know if we've shared the same problem, but when I was shooting SASS I had four Ruger Vaquero's in 45 LC. I didn't send them out for work because I'm easily pleased with most "Out of the Box" Rugers. I did decide to strip them down and polish the internals with emery cloth and Flitz polish. While I was at it I would install a Wolff spring kit. Things worked terrifically on three of them, but one I was having the same problem you describe. I don't know what I did during assembly, but I got something out of place. Transfer bar? Pawl? Cylinder stop pin and spring? I really don't know, but when I took it completely apart again and carefully put it back together, low a behold everything worked like a champ. It might be something to check? Smithy.

Love them 44 magnum Original Size VAQUEROS. My stainless 7.5 inch has a HUNTER grip frame and a 2.5 pound trigger...and an ever increasing round count! It started dragging when loaded...not unloaded. After a little looking, I found that the end of the spring that fits in the loading gate had worked out a bit and would contact the case rim....pushed it back in place with a thin bladed screw driver and all is well. It's had 100 rounds over the past couple of days with no problem.

I'd detail strip the gun...have the instruction manual handy...clean the h*** out of it and look for a burr or metal chip. While they ain't a swiss watch, hardened lubricants or other debris do accumulate and most gun problems are solved by a thorough cleaning and lubrication. I know most of mine...the favorites especially!... need a trip through the solvent bucket and some scrubbing.

I run minimum of 24 rounds left and 24 right hand daily. It was 95+ when I went to shoot at 10 AM today. Eighth day of 100+ here in Saint Looie and humidity is going up.
