| GP100: Separating crane from cylinder
I want to remove the crane from the cylinder of my GP, partly so I can give the inside a real good cleaning (I feel like maybe the cylinder should spin a little more freely) and mostly so I can use the chamfering tool I borrowed from a buddy, which requires removing the ejector.
Like any GP100 owner with even a partial brain who wants to go beyond the basics covered in the factory manual, I have Iowegan's Gun Guide. I've removed the front latch, plunger & spring. I've pulled out the ejector rod. The book says at this point, "Pull the crane out of the cylinder." But it doesn't come out! What's up???
The crazy thing is I took it out last week without a problem; I just didn't have the trick screwdriver to proceed beyond that point.
So, anybody who can guess what I missed, thanks in advance!

Can't image it could be anything except one or both of the balls are sticking, they'll do that sometimes. Try a little force, I saw it happen to Bob Dunlop in the Ruger DA AGI smithing video. Try some type of small wedge, maybe make one out of wood to go between the crane and front of cylinder.
Good luck,
Sal

Wooden wedge & rubber mallet did the trick. Thanks, Sal! Rogerfurum.net is awesome once again.

GOOD, Glad to hear it worked out for you!
I remember watching Dulop use that special screwdriver for the center pin cap as a wedge and tapping it in with a hammer. Made me cringe to think about the damage he might do to the finish. He even said "I hate to do things like this", as I shouted back at the TV, "then why are you, is this how you teach professional smithing?". LOL
They usually aren't stuck that badly, I figured a wedge of wood should do it.
