Question Adjusting a GP100 Crane Latch Pivot

Hey There - I have a GP100 about a year and a half old - 6" blued if it makes a difference - with about 400 rounds through it, mostly 357.

When cleaning/inspecting it from the beginning I've noticed that the crane latch pivot (Brownells part #53) was loose when I checked it with a screwdriver. When I tighten it up pretty snug, the crane latch stays open when I press it and does not return under its own spring power until I back out the latch pivot 1/4-1/2 turn.

I assumed this part supposed to be tight like most gun screws, but thought I'd check here before disassembling and trying to figure out what is binding it when tight.

Thoughts?

No bites? Has this been asked and answered and I missed it in my search?

If so, sorry for repeating here, but otherwise, I'll followup with my diagnosis/solution in case anyone else has the same question.

I ended up removing the trigger group and cylinder, then the latch pivot/screw, and cleaned it all up. Nothing obvious.

The bok says "Tighten the screw until it stops but do not over tighten".

I had to tighten until stop and then back it out several turns before the latch would move smoothly. Its clear that the threads of the latch pivot/screw were binding with the latch itself long before the screw bottomed out in its channel.

Ultimately I used blue loctite to keep it floating there, I've not had a chance to put rounds through it yet, but I'd feel better knowing the screw was bound up and kept in place mechanically as opposed to loctite.

I'll welcome any thoughts, experience, advice etc offered here.

I haven't had any problems with mine, but the loctite should be a pretty good solution.
I have used it on a lot of things during my years as a mechanic.
If you are still worried, I would give Ruger a call. They have some pretty sharp people there.

deankal, Ruger uses thread lock on these but it isn't near as strong as Loc-Tite. Yes, the latch screw is supposed to be screwed in until tight. These screws have a tendency to work loose with use and fall out, if not tightened. When the latch binds as the screw is tightened, it means the pin on the end is bent or too fat at the base. Taking the screw out is easy ... getting it back in can be tricky.
