Security Six Help Please

Hello to everyone, I am new here. I purchased a SS Ruger Security Six with 2 3/4 barrel. Here is the problem. I had it out shooting both 357 and 38 +P's couple weeks ago when I went to reload, the cylinder would not latch and stay latched in place. I checked the manual and it showed a cylinder lock spring part #E-59, called ruger, and they sent out a new one FREE of charge.
This morning I went to replace the spring, and found 2 springs there. One of the springs is a match to the spring they sent me, but the other spring is a little shorter then the one that was sent. With using just the 1 spring, not enough pressure to keep the pin out to lock cylinder in place, insert the shorter spring with the new spring it works fine.

Called Ruger and they have no idea being they have not had production on these in a very long time. Any ideas from the Security Six owners out there?? I sure do love this revolver, but this has me puzzled....

How long is the spring Ruger sent you? This afternoon I'm gonna take one out of one of mine and measure it and we can compare. Very odd.

Hey Fotodan,

I have a Speed Six, which shares it's guts with the Security and Police Sixes. You mention 2 springs being the same size. Is the other spring the KE-34, Cylinder Center Pin Spring? If not, and you have some other spring in there, then your guts are too different for me to help.

Yes my mistake, it is the KE-34. The spring in lenght that Ruger sent me is 5/8", and it is 1/8" dia. One of the springs that was inside the Six is the exact same size. With this spring alone, there is not enough pressure for the pin to extend past the Ejector. With the second spring which was also on the cylinder center pin rod there is enough pressure for the cylinder center lock pin to engage and lock the cylinder in place. The lenght of the smaller spring is almost 1/2". Thanks for all the help so far...
