Ruger Standard original magazines

Having trouble with a couple of original style Ruger Standard magazines that will not feed, one has apparent splayed lips, the other looks good but intermittently gives me FTF.
Is there any place that I can find specs for these?
Does it make more sense to replace them with the newer MKI/MKII magazines, which work fine in the pistol?
Where can I find specs to determine if the springs are in backwards? (Although I tried both ways with no change.)
I have thoroughly cleaned them and verified no dents or defects.

dv8r,

I know of no specs for position of the springs. If I remember right they are the same on both ends and will fit either way. On the bottom of the follower is a small projection. The last coil of the spring latches on to that. Both ends of the spring have this tightened coil.

Now, here is what I did to fix my magazines. I spent some money and bought a bunch of magazines and tested them all. Some brand new in the package, some off of eBay, and a couple from the forums. I was also given an original one sided standard magazine.
Once I determined which magazines worked all the time, with every type of ammo I could find, I borrowed a set of pliers that have long narrow parallel jaws and very carefully bent and adjusted the feed lips and the upper magazine bodies that did not work to match those that did.
By doing this I now have 7 magazines that work.

slinger56 is an unknown quantity at this point
The feed lips on magazines are critical regarding spacing. If you get an occasional FTF it could be ammo related. Many bargain brands have a wide spread in velocity. This coupled with a dirty gun can lead to a slide not making full cycle.

*** Generally, when feed lips are NOT correctly spaced, you will not feed most of the time. I would look other directions for an occasional FTF.

What slinger56 says is true so I'll add this. There are several kinds of jams and failures to feed. Each has it's own cause.
Feed lips
Ammo
Extractor
Ejector
Dirt
All of these things can cause failures. Before altering the magazines you really need to iron out the cause.

The original one sided magazine is no longer available as a new part, so the switchable MK I and II mags are your only choice. I did buy new ones and found that they didn't always feed properly right out of the package. That is why I adjusted those that did not feed right, to match those that did.
