Homade mini 14 compensator?????

Hi all, I have a gun that is new to me, and while it shoots well, I am questioning the compensator on it. Is this a homemade job or is this a factory or aftermarket one. Look forward to any help I can get on this question.

I've never seen one like that, my guess home made.

Is that carbon residue on the barrel behind it from blow by??

When I first looked at the photo the comp looked like it was made from rebar

Yes, that is carbon for sure. Today was the first range day as this gun is new to me. The compensator seems to work very well, as even with the hot lake city loads, it has almost no noticable recoil. It looks like it was made with a piece of bar stock, lathed and hit with a drill press, as you can see the tooling marks which lead me to believe it is a home made job. The gun seems to fire and cycle just fine with it, so I will play around a bit and see what happens. Mabye some guy sold the gun to get money to patent his idea for a new compensator and unintentionally left me his prototype....LMAO Wonder what its worth
