GP-100 cylinder will not latch, help...

I have a GP-100 and the cylinder will not latch and stay locked in place.
My wife bought me this revolver just a couple weeks ago, she also loves to shoot it so please help me fix this problem.
I can not locate a smith in my area, I do feel comfortable in working on it though. The wife helped me with putting the springs back in the trigger group last night.

Okay now for the embarrassing info, my wife loves this fine revolver so much, yes she bought it for me but I think she has taken it over. Any way I slugged the barrel so I can cast my own, then went to cast the cylinders.

That is were the problem came in, I slugged them with the cylinder on the frame. The cylinder now will not latch, and the hammer will not work in SA or DA without pushing forward on the cylinder release.

Jeff.

I'm sure I've bent something, I just don't know what. I have not found anything broken, I would really appreciate some direction on where to look for damage.

Well after looking at it today, I'm 99.9% sure I've bent the crane.

I would guess the crane is bent.

Probably contact ruger tell them what you did and they will have you send it in for repair.

wvmedic - suggest you call Ruger customer service and discuss. It is quite possible that there are other parts involved and your revolver should be thoroughly inspected and properly repaired.

Sorry, that dont add up. Your saying that you think you bent he crane while slugging the cylinders. Thats either some seriously hard lead or just super hard lead and you were slugging all 6 holes at the same time.

JimH, thanks and I'm debating on sending it to Ruger or just getting a new GP-100.

TMD, I really don't know what to say, I already admitted to a stupid mistake. Why would I lie about the way in which I damaged my revolver. I used a 3/8 bullet type sinkers with oil, driving them from the rear toward the front on an unsupported cylinder. I did not think this would damage my revolver, guess I was wrong and made a stupid amateur mistake. Lesson learned, expensive but a lesson learned non the less.

Where does it bind at that it won`t go into the frame ???

Does it feel like it`s going & not locking ????

Look at the front latch does it line up with the notch???

If not , the crane is bent.

Numrich gunparts !!! cyl asm. includes crane !!!

GP100man it will go into the frame, it will not lock though. I can not tell if the front latch is locking up or not, I suspect that it isn't. When the cylinder is closed, looking at the front of the crane assembly where it meets the frame at the top. There is a gap at the front that is a couple thousands wider than the rear.

If the front latch is`nt going in the slot it`ll prevent the rear 1 from locking also .

Decision time !!!

Make the call , terry p is right you may be surprised !

terry p & GP100man, thanks for the replies. I hope that this thread helps keep another person new to revolvers from making the same mistake.

As for calling Ruger, I have and they want me to send it to them for an estamate. The problem with that is, shipping both ways is $120.00. Then if they charge say $200.00 the shipping and repair is $320.00, we only have $440.00 in it now so I will just replace it with another. It is nearly ten years old now and I can buy a blued GP100 for around $480.00 new. That might be the way I go, as I am really found of the GP100 it has a better trigger that my 1911 Springfield and is a blast to shoot. I might use the current stainless GP100 for wall art, and a reminder of my mistake.
