Strange advice from Ruger

So I finally called Ruger about the spring extending past the end of the guide rod on a RAP45 compact while disassembled I've heard this was a common thing and they were sending out new rods and springs, anyways I was kind of expecting to get a new rod and spring sent out but instead received some advice from the nice lady on the other end.
First after I stated that it's hard to get the thing back on the rod the way it should be she said well if you use a table top to compress the spring, ok duh I can figure that out but is it defective?
Then she said once it's back on to take a pliers and pinch the spring a bit and that should do it!!
So what is surprising to me about this is the fact that yea I can figure out and perform simple tasks like this and it will probably work just fine but Ruger directed me to take a pliers and basically perform some shade tree bubba type fixes, I did not expect that as I would think this opens a big liability door? Or at the very least if there is another problem down the road and it gets sent in do they look at it and say well whose been working on this?
Again seems simple and harmless but I was surprised to be told by Ruger to do this rather than send out a new guide rod and or spring

I'm probably just over thinking things again

What say you?

When I've called before, I've gotten the impression that most people call expecting it fixed tomorrow, especially if a CCW. Maybe she thought you wanted the quick fix? You might still call and request a new one.
