RAP aftermarket guide rods and springs

Has anyone installed any of the aftermarket guide rods or springs in their Ruger American Pistol?

Can anyone explain to me what the purpose would be on installing a different size spring and or one of the aftermarket rods ?

I put a galloway stainless steel striker guide on my 9mm duty, RAP. I just polished it up and put it in. I could not see why they chose a polymer for something that constantly slams forward . I have 1000 rounds through it and no failures or problems. I think it was cheap insurance. Now if only someone would improve the trigger, this would be the perfect home defense pistol for me

Thank you for the reply Paul

Yeah I've always figured there wasn't anything wrong with making stuff a little stronger than they need be when it comes to things like this.

I liked my Rap compact so much that I went out and got the duty size too. I've got some Truglo TFX PRO sights coming for both pistols that were just shipped out yesterday. It must be my aging eye's but the three white dots just weren't doing it for me.

Do you think one of the stiffer rod springs would have any detrimental effect on the pistol long term ?
